Hello, can I have opinions on this dress please? I'm getting married next month, it's going to be really low key and we're trying to keep costs down so I was planning on getting a nice high street from monsoon or similar. My lovely friend has however brought her dress from the 90s(!!!!) round to try and I actually quite like it?!
Is it too dated? It needs to be fitted and I would have the roses taken off the sleeves and them taken in a bit if possible.
I'm 5'5 and about 10 stone if that makes a difference. Could use the money I save for lovely shoes and a make up artist.

Honestly?

Yes!! Remove the flowers, press the dress and, as you say, tighten sleeves slightly and robert's your mother's brother!

I am obsessed with wedding dress-searching ATM (am due to get married soon) and I love the long sleeved, sweetheart neckline look.

Go for it and get fabulous shoes!

Honestly? It is hideous.

Go to Monsoon.

I like the top if you did the alterations, I really don't like the bottom half though BUT if you like it then go for it.

I also don't think you need the veil with all that lace on the sleeve.

I do think it looks quite dated, but would be considerably improved by removing the flowers. Also agree that woul be better without the veil.

Erm, pretty much what Think said, sorry.

Without the flowers, I love it! Very much like all the lace numbers in style just now - it's vintage!

I think if you removed the roses on the shoulders and the lace sleeves plus stuck to a plain veil it would look great.

um...lose the veil and the sleeves.i would keep the roses :)

The roses have dated badly.

But the dress itself is beautiful and will look very now if you choose the right bouquet and headpiece. I wouldn't have a veil. It's too much with the sleeves. It's crying out for a long bouquet in fresh colours (white and green?)

Sorry I also think it looks dated, I would look at Ghost.

I think if you could remove the roses and alter the sleeves it would look better but if you can afford it have a shop around

Is this the first wedding dress you have tried on?

Report
coldteaforme · 02/07/2015 19:29

Ah I typed a reply but it's disappeared!!
Thanks, I was definitely after honest opinions. Bit of a mixed response though haha. Forgot to mention I wouldn't wear the veil Smile
I think I'm going to go have a look around this weekend and try some more on. I was just surprised by how much a liked it though, I've felt a bit silly in other 'wedding' dresses I've tried on so will hang on to it as back up plan.
I've got a budget of about £300ish for a dress, any ideas of where to look? It doesn't have to be a wedding dress, just a nice dress which looks a bit special.

I think once the roses have gone it will be brilliant

Coast is generally good for wedding dresses. Although I think that one would be lovely with the alterations.

My advice is do not compromise on your dress,I don't mean financially-I'm sure you could get a beautiful dress off the high street but if there's any part of you that isn't sure about wearing your friends then don't do it.

Low key or not this is your one and only day and you should feel special.

I'm sorry OP but I think it looks dated, it seems to have a bit of a Lady Di silhouette. John Lewis, debenhams, coast and monsoon all stock bridal gowns well within your budget. Also //www.outnet.com and //www.net-a-porter.com have sales on at the moment. If you're not bothered about having a brand-new dress, have a look on //www.preloved.co.uk

Agree with Blueberry you should definitely wear something you feel fabulous in, low-key or not.

I have no idea that there were fashions in wedding dresses so I would ask whether you like it. If you do, wear it. Don't spend money on something because folk on the internet say they don't like it. You look great in the photos and if you feel good in the dress then go for it.

I disagree with the Diana silhouette comment. Lose the roses, get it fitted, and it will look great.

Someone clever might be able to totally transform it, but it does look very dated indeed.

Bare in mind that by the time you've paid to have the dress altered you might not have saved a significant amount of money.

I think the lacy sleeves and roses are really tacky - makes it look like something you could get off eBay from China for 40 quid!

But if they were removed and the dress was altered to be more fitted it would look classic & beautiful
