Pantene shampoo - what's happened to it?

I have used this range for years, various different varieties. In the last 2 weeks I have tried Repair and Protect and the one for coloured hair. I have had both many times before but now my hair feels awful with them. The best way to describe it is to say it feels like it is coated in wax and it feels very heavy. Even my scalp feels like it covered in something. It has become almost impossible to style as it doesn't seem to want to dry and is looking very limp. I will have to abandon both bottles, my hair feels greasy and looks dull.

Has anyone else noticed a sudden change in these products or is it just me? It seems like something has been added to the ingredients recently which is making my hair feel very dirty.

When I first started having my hair coloured my stylist insisted on treating my hair to remove the plasticiser that Pantene had left on my hair. Have never used it again. Maybe they've upped the levels of the plastic coating stuff

They have had a revamp of the bottles because they seem to have stopped doing Enhanced Layers now Sad

I haven't bought any in years but thought I'd give it a go again. I got some last week and it was just dreadful, I couldn't style my hair at all and it felt greasy. Won't be using it again.

I have bought a bottle of their most basic/normal shampoo which is not meant to treat any hair issues. If this is also full of waxy rubbish I will not buy it again. Surely they are going to lose sales if everyone having such trouble with it. Whatever they have done seems quite extreme.

So what to use instead, I haven't tried anything else in years? What do you use shoppingbags?

Dds are quite found of the Ausssie one, is that ok?

I buy tresamme smooth. Big bottles for not much money and they don't have whatever it was that the hairdresser said was coating my hair (can't remember now, only paid attention long enough to go and choose another brand)

Someone told me if that happens it's too much silicone in it.

of course she could have been talking out her arse.

They probably spent all their money paying Liv Tyler to simper through their adverts.

the Aussie everyday shampoo leaves hair clean, without adding wax or silicone. Just clean. Then you can add whatever you like :)

The only conditioner that does not coat hair in silicone/plastic is REN, and quite hard to find.

coco my hairdresser told me not to use it because of silicone too. But she said that the problem was a build up of it over time, so if people are finding it is coating their hair on first or second use in a long time then they must have really ramped up the amounts they use...

Another vote for Aussie Mega here. But I did once overhear two women in the showers at the gym saying they hadn't been having much luck with pantene but after switching to Boots own their hair was lovely and glossy if that helps anyone.

I'm still using up my stocks of their curly shampoo as they've stopped doing that too but looks like I shall be trying another brand then...

Another whose hairdresser said don't touch the stuff. I thought here we go on the kerastase selling but he said to use any other apart from Pantene.

I found exactly the same OP... I don't use their more expensive varieties now, I use the aqualight ones and they don't seem to have so much silicone in them. Otherwise another Tresemme fan here.

My hair hates most shampoo apart from Pantene for coloured hair! But it does leave a build up so I use head & shoulders for coloured hair for a month and then go back to Pantene! And despite what people say about h & s it doesn't strip the colour from my hair and does leave it glossy and healthy!!

Bloody Pantene, used it for years with no problems and a couple of weeks of the new improved formula and i want to shave my head just to get to my scalp and scratch it. Just bought two huge bottles as well. In the bin it goes. any recommendations? anyone tried the new split remody Tresemme?

I like the Elvive for coloured hair but am currently using Dove as it was on offer

I use hairfix on my hair once a week and it removes any build up from product and shampoo/conditioner. To be honest I just like the condition of it afterwards but I've leant it to friends (esp blondes) and every single one has gone and bought it for themselves. I've even seen it being used in salons as one of those chargable treatments. Can't recommend highly enough - I usually get it from qvc when it is on easy pay but there are lots of kits on the hairfix website and they have free PandP so you could try it for £12.50...

This is why I love MN! It used to bethe very best shampoo & conditioner. Now it leaves my hair heavy and greasy! So votes for Aussie Mega? Anything else!?

weirdly, I had stopped using it for a while, but just got some of the new bottles and it is brilliant on my hair Confused couldn't use the old stuff though! with the old stuff, I had to wash every morning, with the new one I can leave it 2 days (and could get away with 3 if I wanted to).

I only use Aussie conditioner though (when I bother with conditioner)

Same problem here, the new bottle is giving me spots on my scalp the like of which I've not had since before the menopause.
Glas to have seen this thread, as I was thinking that I had caught chicken pox.

So it's really not just me then. I also had just bought 2 big bottles on offer, I'm going to let dh use it up as he hasn't noticed a difference. I've been using the Aussie shempoo and 3 minute miracle for a couple of weeks now and my hair feels great. It's really clean and lightweight and easy to style again. I will never go back to Pantene. My hairdresser too warned me about it years ago but I ignored her. I think they really have wrecked the formula this time, wonder if they will notice a drop in sales?

Hmm - I have been finding this too. I have always used the Sleek & Smooth 2-in-1, and has always been great - now with this new formula, I can never get it to feel really clean, even when I use separate shampoo & conditioner (not Pantene) at the weekend.

Can anyone recommend a better 2-in-1 to use? During the week, I really don't have time to rinse any more than once, and I wash my hair every morning.

The Pantene Full & Thick was really good, but they've taken it out of the range, and the Extra Body stuff is a different formula - I agree it's rubbish.

I use Aussie too (note it's made by the same company, so some of the formulations will be pretty similar, apart from perfume etc).

I noticed this too, once they came out with the new ingredients, have used Pantene for years. Wonder who they tested them on.

It is horrible. I am in the process of trying out a few different brands, Elvive doing well so far.
