What is the best way to get rid of dry skin on your feet, forever?

I have neglected my feet for ages (don't even get me started on my toenails), but now I want to give them a makeover.

I have dry, flaky skin around my heels and have tried one of those Scholl pumice stone things but tbh its not making much difference.

What's the best way to get them looking baby soft?

My friend used to do hers with a stanley knife, but I'd prefer something a bit less dangerous Grin

go to a chrirop
then bundle says that the flexitol cream is crap compared to compeed dry heel cream

compeed dry heel cream is the way forward, is it? A cream seems so much easier that sawing it off like a loon every night.

I didn't think the chiropodist did stuff like dry skin, I though they were for ingrowing nails and the like...

Chiropodists do do dry skin, but unless you have problems with bending over you don't need to see one for dry flaky heel skin.

Get a good foot file (not sure that is proper name) - soak your feet, file off the dry skin, use a foot scrub, then a good heel cream.

If you do this reasonably regularly (and it's quite a treat, really) your feet will improve very quickly.

You'll have to do it more often if you are wearing sandals during the summer, as that is tougher on your heels.

and then get a scraper from loyds pharmacy
called a corn remover
is like a cheese slicer and rather addictive

cheese slicer???

I think I'll kick off with some nivea as that's all I've got in atm and maybe sleep in some socks so it can sink in slowly.

I'll be slathered every night. Thank you ladies!

Soak your feet for 30 mins in a hot bath, so the skin is all white, then take a corn knife and shave bits off your heel a la parmesan.

Utterly grim but very satisfying and sorts the dead skin out a treat....

oh lord I'll see if I can pick one up. Certainly sounds like it does the job!

Do you get a little "step" where the shaved bit meets the foot ifswim?

Chiropody is the way to go, they sort you out and then you can keep it up.

Try this...

www.thisworks.com/home/shop/12-body-care/100-body-moisturiser/perfect-heels-rescue-balm?gclid=CIeyuPuFsakCFQEY4Qodsx3EJw

Made a huge difference to my heels. I can't be bothered to faff about with a pumice stone (no time, too lazy???) but don't need to with this. Even DH uses it on his feet!

Every night before you go to sleep slather on some sort of thick moisturising cream. I use epaderm that I have for eczema. If you do it every night it will make a genuine difference over time.

Files etc work temporarily but it all soon comes back.

Yes yes you have to keep it up. It gets addictive though. I like a good scrubbing Wink

Soap & Glory's Heel Genius is amazing - it has fruit acids in it to break down the skin and so aid the removal. Onion you get it at Douglas stores. Or vaseline under socks.

Pedi cream is excellent, it's full of Aha's. I'll run a search and come back with a link.

Margaret Dabbs foot file once a week then Margaret Dabbs Emu oil twice daily is the only thing that has ever worked for me. Tried loads of products over the years. No matter how much skin is filed away it will always harden if not moisturised properly. Had a chirop appt with Margaret Dabbs herself which was super expensive but did give me the incentive to keep up the good work, IYKWIM

The best way to get rid of dry skin on your feet is to walk bare foot, whilst walking dogs, chatting happily to a German bloke. Grin

You can buy a kind of cheese grater for the feet called 'Ped Egg' which I got in Asda for less than a tenner (just don't leave it lying around in the kitchen...!)

If I can be arsed, I put on some old hideous plastic verruca socks (the kind of ones you used to have to wear for school swimming lessons) after I've plastered some cream on them and sleep wearing them.

Probably me, but the ped egg made a right hash of my feet. I have a foot file and if you can stretch to it... L'occitane foot cream is the business :)
