Am thinking of ordering some things from Boden....is this wise?

Have never ordered anything from there before always thought it was a bit mumsy....had a quick flick through a friends catalogue and actually saw some things that I thought looked quite nice and she gave me a 15% off code, but have read a lot of threads on here saying it is all no good this year....

Has anyone ordered any of the following and how did you find them:

for work this jersey tie dress in grey smudge spot

breton tops in pistachio stripe and sailor strip

thsee sixties sandals in silver or these statement sandals in silver metallic

thoughts?

I bought the dress in green and sent it back - too thin and not 'structured' enough for work - better for drinks in the sun on holiday! Joules has better work dresses I have found, and 3 for 2 offer this week.

Hi whoneedssleepanyway.
I couldn't wear the dress or top as I am large of nork, but I think they are lovely.
I have bought Boden sandals a few times before, but this year I didn't. The quality is not there in my opinion to justify the price they are charging.
I bought these instead from Kurt Geiger.
Give the stuff a go.

Sorry, meant to say check out the reviews for the items, they are usually quite helpful.

Thanks all.

Woopsidaisy - yes I love those sandals you bought but I really want silver ones. The gutting thing is two years ago I bought some perfect gorgeous sandals from next £12...they lasted 2 summers but are clapped now, i wish I had bought more than one pair as they were as nice as the boden ones but a fraction of the price.

Interesting about the dress Looby - the pattern says work to me rather than holiday but clearly no good if too flimsy...

Hmmmmm

Love the KG sandals.

I was really disappointed with Boden....recently sent stuff back that looked dreadful on ME, but then the models make EVERYTHING look lovely! Also, stuff I wanted kind of, well, now-ish had a 12 week delivery date on.

No, not for me anymore.

But, if you look a bit like that model.....good for you, girl!

whoneedssleepanyway I had been uninspired to order anything from Boden this season but took the plunge and have been very pleased so far:

Chambray Dress

and this in Poppy which arrived this morning and which I wore straight away and going to order in sea green too :)

Am waiting for some knitwear and a skirt. It seems to me that their quality is a bit dubious at times recently which is a shame as I have Boden clothing which is almost 10 years old and still going strong.

A friend has the breton (but yellow version) and I think it looks good.

Love those sandals. Have you looked at Top Shop's leather sandals? I have bought a gorgeous pair in bronze for £18. Very comfy too. Agree that Next have done some fab sandals for the last couple of years but am disappointed that this season they are all really narrow.

I too ordered the jersey tie dress and sent it back. It's certainly quite flimsy as the jersey's very thin - would have said more holiday/ casual than work.

Generally I find the reviews useful - so long as people have done them properly and said why they did or din't like things, what size they ordered etc.

The breton tops seem to have got a mixed reception, both in reviews and on this site. As a breton enthusiast, interested to hear what you think if you do order.

Their above knee dresses come up too short for work, imo.

I have been really pleased with the Boden things I ordered. DO tend to order only sale things though!!

I've ordered 2 jersey dresses, a jersey jacket and the linen dress. I'm delighted with my purchases!

Doglover did you order this linen dress? have been wondering about it as reviews are mixed. What colour did you go for? What do you like about it?

doglover · 12/04/2011 16:30

Yes, that's the one. I ordered the azure - it's a stunning blue - in a 18L. I sent this back for a 16L - the sizing is generous, particularly around the bust. I hate fabric which clings to my wobbly tummy and this just skims over that part of my anatomy!! It's linen and so does crease but I prefer this casual look. HTH

DH says Johnnie Boden must love women like me... send her a discount code and she places an order Grin. However, I am also on first name terms with the woman in the post office from all the returns I do!!

That Said, I have kept some bits from this year:

I have the stripe top in straw with navy trims - looks great with slim jeans and gold ballet pumps.

This cardigan in navy is also getting a lot of wear with jeans and Ts and scarf.

This vest with a big discount :) I sized down. Starting to notice a theme that I am liking yellow right now!!

Tulpe has also been very bad this afternoon, tempting me to order the top that she mentions!

Boden gets a slating on here but we all seem to order plenty!!

That helps a lot, thank you :) Was toying with the idea of the blue one so good to hear positive things about the shade.

I tried on a similar dress in Zara which was straight up and down but I was definitely between sizes - the smaller one too tight around my backside and the larger one swamping me and making hips look mahoosive. However, from the looks of it, that dress is more A-line, no?

well i ordered it all...

by the sound of things the dress will go back but my work whilst being dress code smart is on the more casual side of smart...

wish i had seen that cardigan Meggles that is v v nice

i found the reviews a bit confusing as there was such a mixed bag.

oh well free returns Smile

Have ordered masses of things, but only kept a few: two tunics, including stripy one, everyday jersey dress, and - after seeing it recommended on here - 'breezy beach dress' (!). And a pair of capris. I like that linen dress doglover - I should have made my mind up sooner about that one.

meggles , I've been looking for a good navy cardigan and that one you bought does look nice. The other one I've been considering is the Favourite Crew Neck - don't know if anyone has got that?

Can easily identify my worst Boden buy of all this year - the strange summer maxi skirt!

I have just ordered the linen dress in azure too. I've sent back the breton, too boxy, too high necked, didn't suit me. I'm hoping the linen dress was made for my shape and not the other reveiwers' shapes! I've also ordered the beach strappy dresses in different colours just to see. If they work, they could be just what I'm after.
So far I've kept the denim mini in white, but in Long length, and 2 scoop neck t shirts in white (should have sent it back with the dark vintage mini), and pink.

My best buy so far has been a stud linen scarf from Kew here. Amazing.

No don't. You will forever more be inundated with peculiar catalogues because 'they' will get your demographic wrong and think you want pastel, polyester slacks and extra wide fitting, fully adjustable, velcro fastdnibg sandals

I ordered that dress and it came today. it is AWFUL. the bodice billows out and makes you look PG and the skirt part is tight. the material is cheap and horrible- it could be sold at a market for £20 tops.

I have got 2 dresses on back order- have had 1 delivery of them , returned and am trying another size/colour.

Very disappointed with Boden this season. Might have a few tops etc if dirt cheap in sale but otherwise, nothing.

as you were- have spotted the linen dress- in the pics it has a belt- that's why I didn't recognise it. don't like. sorry. shapeless.

I like the chambray dress, but I just bought something identical from M&S Autograph and it was considerably cheaper.

That's my main gripe with Boden - much of it just isn't worth the price. But I always have a look come Sale time, because I do like some of their stuff, just not at full-price.
