Am I too old for this dress?

here

I bought it in black, it's soooo cheap and suits my shape (happy with top half, finally, a year after birhm but still got a gut on me) but is it too short for a 34 year old size 14? How would I style it to look classy, not cheap? And please don't find me more expensive alternatives Smile, I can't afford them Sad. Cheers m'dears.

Hey, wear it with confidence and a big smile and you will look and feel amazing! It's lovely, and the black tights and black shoes the model are very classy.

Enjoy wearing it!

Cute! Wear it with black opaques.

I've just bought one about the same length and I'm 43!

You've got years left before you even need to ask this question! Get out there and love it!! Grin

It'll look lovely! Nice dress for the party season. I was looking at that one myself but I'm pg so it won't fit .

Blardy hell... just about to order that very dress after reading the personal shopper thread... am close to 50!

Ah, cheers for words of encouragement... maybe it was just the trying on of the frock in New Look surrounded by size 6/8 teenagers that gave me a complex Smile

nah, do it! Quite sexy and restrained at the same time. Opaques with heels. Triffic.

Sorry but a size 14 in a dress like that is just so wrong. Too much flesh showing and far too short - whatever your age.

Disagree Beautyspot. Size 14 is a great size, curvy not fat.

Love the dress go for it!

My rule is if it doesn't cover your bum, it's a top, not a dress, regardless of what size you are.

It´s lovely I want it!Blush

I´d be tempted to wear opaques so that my legs didn´t feel too exposed.

I think it´s fantastic shows off your boobs(mine are great) & skims tummy(not so great in my case)

I´m only 5ft, so it wouldn´t show too much leg.

Well, I never show too much leg as there isn´t much to showGrin

I know you didn't want alternatives but this and this are not much more pricey, but are a lot more classy.
I don't know if this colour would suit you but I adore this

Cheers for more comments. Sickonmyshoulder, not to be argumentative, but...Wink I don't quite get how the Debenhams is one classier, as it looks pretty much identical. The New Look one stops a couple of inches above my knee, so would consider that to cover my bum! I think maybe our tastes differ as the blue one doesn't float my boat - but thanks for looking.
Diddl, cheers, my thoughts exactly, I have a fine cleavage to expose, if I do say so myself... opaques and perhaps even a wee black sparkly cardie are the way forward...

re you original question - there is a saying in football, that if you are good enough you are old enough ( trotted out when young players get called up to the first team etc). It's about talent, not age.

guess here it's "if you have the figure for it, you have the dress". Legs and cleavage? Tick.

Ignore beautyspot.

Size 14 is a great size.

Black tights, high black heels (maybe a wedge heel if you don't do stilettos), simple jewellery and sleek, shiny hair or up-do. Bet you will look sensational.

Get real. In anyone's books a size 14 is big. There are a lot of clothes that a size14 can look great in - but not these!!

A size fourteen is a BIG girl.

beautyspot Hmm I find your posts on here somewhat offensive.
Emphasising BIG Hmm...

Go for it iknow Smile... I don't get ageism with style.. if you are confident enough to wear something, then you can get away with it.

whatevs, beautyspot.

Your negative posts make me think you are bone thin and jealous Wink

Depends what you're comparing size 14 to.

If you are comparing size 14 to an 8 year old, then yes.

To a size 30, then no.

To the average female British population, then no.

Beautyspot - do you think you have a healthy attitude to body size?

Report
CraigRevelPan · 28/11/2010 17:08

not sure what beautyspot's motive is. Such negativity. A 14 is a great size, from this man's viewpoint. The OP has good cleavage and the legs to wear this. With opaques, heels and the suggestion of modest jewellery she will look hot hot hot. Ignore beautyspot, if you will.

I have serious body ishoos and like to be a size 8 (am bordering on a 10 at the moment).

However I can accept that they are my ishoos and IMHO the poster saying a 14 is fat is just plain nasty.

I have posted on here about size and been flamed (hate all the 'curvy' shite instead of saying 'fat') but a size 14 isnt fat, I think anything up to a 16 is just normal. Anything over that then yes you are bordering into overweight/fat/obese (at size 24 obviously not at size 18)

What im trying to say is ignore poster, 14 is not fat, dress is lovely, and thats coming from someone who feels fat at a size 10 Grin

Beautyspot is a size 10. I'm a BIG natural size 14 but have been a 16 due to overwork and stress. If I ever go to a size 12 I look a little worn, and anyway it doesn't last long because it's not my natural size.

But I guess I'm just bloody lazy and can't take care of myself hey beautyspot! (who cares that I've run a few marathons and plan to run another next year?)

And I often get compliments from strangers when I'm out. Even if I do dare to wear a whore outfit-- black sleeveless dress Shock

Bleugh. Said my piece. Not in the mood for mean tonight.

It's really lovely, you'll look great Smile
I'd wear it with leggings, but then again I've turned into a bit of a prude lately always covering everything, so maybe I should be winding my neck in!

And 14 is not fat! How ridiculous.
