What is up with the pound key it's driving me mad when people put £50 or whatever and it doesn't show up as that

Is it me?

I get £ instead of the symbol for pound. Only on the app. The desktop site is fine

Also I noticed someone wrote a name on here with a hyphen over it and it did the same thing. Not sure what I was as I didn't look on desktop site. Thread was entitled. "What's your name?"

This is the case for a lot of symbols. I think speech marks etc have it. Some posts are unreadable.

The capital A with a hat is caused when our server mis-interprets what your browser sends. From Wikipedia....

For example, the pound sign "£" will appear as "£" if it was encoded by the sender as UTF-8 but interpreted by the recipient as CP1252 or ISO 8859-1. If iterated, this can lead to "£", "£", etc.
