Would you mind showing me a picture of your downstairs toilet, please?

I'm having an old out-building converted to part of the kitchen with a downstairs toilet coming off.

It'll only be about 500-600mm wide (the width of a sink with a bit either side) and the toilet and sink will be opposite each other with the sliding door in the middle.

It's months away yet but I'm after inspiration. Should I tile all over? Should I tile just behind the sink and toilet and paint the rest? Or wall paper the rest? What colour should I paint it? Or what wallpaper should I use?

Our kitchen is quite modern so although I'd love to go for an ornate, luxury, French-style feel, I think I'll have to hold back.

I've been in pinterested. I'm addicted but also slightly overwhelmed. I need 'real' examples.

Please, lovely people of MN, show me your toilets!!

I can't post photos as they would out me (I know that sounds weird) but our downstairs loo just has a tiled splashback above the sink. The rest is wallpapered.

If you are short of space, I found this in a brochure recently. Great idea but I chuckle when I see it!

wow What kind of wallpaper do you have?

watto I have seen that. We're not that short of space! For some reason I can't fathom, this just seems really grim.

I'd love to, but we're about to put one in under the stairs. I'm going for all over tiling. Fortunately we already have a window there and solid tiled floor. Tiling gives a uniformed look in a small space.

It's an anaglypta type which has been painted. Really works with the house which is Edwardian - we moved recently. Apparently anaglypta painted in strong colours is the next big thing in decorating. Which is just as well - we have acres of the stuff!

Im not a massive fan of fully tiled. I love half tiled with metro but I understand they are a bit old hat now!

We have a shower in ours as its a new build and new builds over certain size must have downstairs shower and bedroom.

It's never been used in the 2 years we have lived here , waste of space I think.

Here's mine. I wish I'd not bothered with the cupboard under the sink but we love the tiles/paper combo.

Here's mine. It's currently the only thing in my house that is finished. dh built it. If you want units a carpenter might be of use

I have installed these twice for clients, and they can look and work really well.

I can't find a picture of the last finished loo, but I used grey painted tongue and groove (effect) panelling up to the 1.2m level (so it acted like a splash back around the basin) bright yellow vinyl flooring and the wallpaper attached. Mirror cabinet above basin with light bar in top (ikea)

Ours is painted with magnet paint and chalkboard paint. We have jars of letters for the magnet boards and chalk and everyone who visits loves it and spends ages in there ....

When I said I have installed these twice, I was referring to the loo with basin above the cistern.

ours is in a former doorway. about as big as a public cubicle.
floor and walls are tanked and tiles on floor and walls up to 4ft high.
we have one of those toilets with a sink on top of the cistern.
works well.

Mine is sooo boring. Was like that when we moved in. It's under the stairs so the coats are in there until I get a coat rack up in the hall. I'd love something more interesting.
