Pregnancy

when did you first feel your baby move?

Hi - I'm coming up to 20 weeks (this is my first pregnancy) and while I think I've had a bit of the fluttering / quickening over the past week or so, I can't be sure and have definitely not felt any definite movements. Is this normal? When did you first feel your baby move and what did it feel like?

Feeling quite anxious so keen to hear about other people's experiences...

I felt mainly flutterings and a sort of vibration type feeling at around 17/18 weeks and then the occasional prod from the inside and again mainly flutters till about around 20/21 weeks then more prods and wriggles... -if I was busy and wasn't sitting or laying very quiet then I'd miss it altogether

It kind of gradually built up for me from mild flutterings that I wasn't really sure I was even feeling, to proper wriggles and prods over the weeks.

I'm now 26 weeks and fell the baby moving a lot more but can still feel like my baby was quiet if I had a busy day, but really I am just not noticing the smaller movements while I am busy.

I tend to feel it more just after I have eaten... makes me want to eat more my baby likes baked potatos and cakes!!

p.s. you do sound very normal to me, your baby is going to surprise you with a prod very soon!

oh crikey - DS I didnt feel until what I thought was quite late - it was definately after my scan, so maybe 22 weeks? It was tiny little flutters. I know I wasnt positive about what it was until much later, maybe 26 or 27. When I started getting whacked really hard!!

I'm 20 pg with #2 now and I felt this one at more like 11 weeks (Im told thats unlikely, but I know what I feel!) This one started of as flutters but from about 16 weeks has been definate poking!

I started feeling it around 19-20 weeks, but it wasn't very easy to tell the difference between the baby's movements and my usual stomach burblings (except the latter are usually accompanied by a noise ).

The best was when I first felt a movement with my hand.

Then later, of course, you can actually see it. I'm starting to get a wee bit tired of 'Alien' comments... Keeps me entertained on the bus though.

im 28 weeks pregnant this week with my first pregnancy and i was exactly the same around 20 weeks pregnant i felt a bit of fluttering but i couldnt be sure if that was definitely the baby or just my digestive system or something but then the movements got stronger and i started to recognise the babys movements now my whole belly shakes like jelly when the baby kicks. it goes mad when i eat icelollies and spaghetti bolognese(not together)!! somedays when i havent been paying attention i get all worried thinking i didnt feel the baby move so i play my ipod to my bump and it makes the baby move

congratulations xx

Don't panic! (says she) This is my 5th and I've only just become aware of more movement at 21 weeks, generally in evening in bed just before I finally shut my eyes! Have been driving myself and family round the bend complaining of lack of movement only to be reminded by my midwife that I am very busy and it is still 'early days'!

About 22 weeks I think, and even then it was hit and miss. Some days I'd feel it, then it'd disappear for a few days, but gradually got stronger and more regular. Now you can see arms/legs glide across my stomach, bleurgh, give me back random little punches any day

I don't think I noticed it when it was at the flutters stage... but the kicks/punches felt like someone had a little fishing hook attached to my womb, and gave it random little tugs now and again

This is all so reassuring - thanks so much for your replies.

I think I felt more fluttering last night too, so will just patiently wait over the next few weeks for something more definite and stronger...

I'm 21 weeks and think i have felt it - but normally just after dinner when i lie on the sofa with my hands on my stomach.. not exactly a flutter... just sthg that doesn't feel like its me moving.

But had 20 wk scan & its definitely moving around so not too worried. Keep telling myself i'll soon get fed up when it starts kicking me thru the night

I am 21 weeks pg with my 1st baby and have not felt any movement yet. Was starting to freak out but have since read that it's common to miss the flutterings if you are quite active.

First felt at 16 weeks, which I think is quite unusual for first babe. Best described as a kind of corkscrew feeling. 24 weeks now and plenty of activity - sort of soft watery waves feeling?? Mostly felt when sitting or laying still.

Mine was so gradual, I had no idea it was the baby. By the time I got to about 24 weeks, I was feeling noticeable kicking from within. Some days I didn't feel that much. Now at eight and a half months pregnant, I can feel the baby squirming around like a muscley octopus and I can see my stomach doing Mexican Waves...

11weeks the earliest (2nd baby) and 22weeks the latest(3rd baby) all the others were somewhere in between.

I felt him at 15 weeks and my husband felt him at 16 1/2 weeks. We were able to see him at 18 1/2 weeks and now in the morning and at night we can watch him move for an hour at a time or so!

About 16 weeks. We went to see Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds at the Brixton Academy. The first note of the concert was a deep bass, and there was a definite response from inside. DH was sooo proud

I first felt pokings at about 16-17 weeks (this is my first). I am now 25 and can feel very definite kicks, prods, punches and writhes, as well as see them through my clothes.

I am was pretty slim before I got pg and I also have a posterior placenta so I suppose there's less to absorb the impacts. But everyone's different.

I haven't really felt anything yet, although i thought i possibly felt something today at work. I am 19 weeks so hoping to feel something soon! got 20 wk scan on monday anyway, so hopefully that should let us know everything is ok. this is our first baby, so all a bit new!

With my first pregnancy I think it was the "usual time" so I guess 18 weeks'ish - but really can't remember. 2nd - again, can't remember, but all fairly normal.

Now I'm 14+6 and can honestly say I felt the first flutterings/rumbles at 12 weeks. Was really shocked to feel so early - but the movements have become stronger each day and earlier today even saw the ripple across my stomach and a bit of a kick. Thing is - Im not exactly a skinny minny so really really surprised that this is happening
