Hyperemesis sufferers please help me

I am 8 weeks pg and have hyperemesis (for the 2nd time). I have lost nearly a stone already and I can't face looking at/smelling/eating any food. Can anyone suggest anything that I might be able to eat? The only think that I can stomach at the moment is cornflakes (which I don't ususally eat funnily enough!) and they do come back up anyway, but not every time. Was there anything at all that you ladies with this horrible illness could stomach?

Have you been to the doctors? I tried everything and eventually found that Stematil (sp) tabs that you put into your cheek to dissolve eased the sickness enough to be about to eat things like unbuttered toast/ready salted crisps/rich tea biscuits.

Hope you find something to help soon x

Hiya, am in the same sit. at the moment, 2 weeks ahread of you- this is my fourth time although was medicated fords2 and ds3, hospitalised for ds1. Have wanted to avoid meds this time so not been to GP.

Have you had a look at the blooming awful website? there's a lsit of food ideas and other self help tips on there that is really good. Although I am finding that whatever I eat, if I am sick on it I cant eat again.

Dont worry about foods- concentrate on your fluids, and try cold ice pops etc as they seem to help. melon and lettuce also often good for that.

feel free to CAt me for mutual hugs if you want LOL

My morning sickness wasn't too bad but I've got a friend who's currently suffering with hyperemesis and she tells me the only thing she can manage is bread sticks and quite salty food like marmite or salt and vinegar crisps. She's also got some medication from the doctor.

As I say, I just had normal morning sickness but I found really salty foods helpful too.

Can you manage drinks like smoothies?

just try small amounts.

i used to eat my meals in two sittings, throw up the first one, then try again with the second.

i ended uop, after giving birth, weighing less than when i fell pregnant.

I do that LVOC, the meal in 2 sittings, I now I'llkeep the second half of a meal down as long as it is bland and small now- at one pint was nothing though

Bloody miserable

but not so long to go now

I discovered that mine was a milk allergy causing it, but pretty much I attempted to eat anything that appealed (dry cornflakes could work?)

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 04/09/2007 16:08

oh and dont even attempt to eat rice. that is painful to throw up as it all clumps together.

I had this with my 2 pregnancies.

I was hospitalised for a month when carrying ds.

I remember having one sweetie & was sick.

The only thing I can recommend is trying to keep your fluids up. I was on a drip for a month & that was not pretty I can tell you.

Don't force yourself to eat. But, if you can, eat soups etc.. things that are easy to sick up again (I know that sounds awful but it's what a nurse advised me to do) even though the smell of them will make you heave

In the end I got steroids as my brother was getting married & I wanted out for the wedding. I remember being sick the whole day, spending half of it laying in bed in the hotel & being sick after dinner

Actually flame my milk allergy started with the hyperemesis for ds1, and does worsen a LOT in pregnancy. Perhaps I should go back on the total exclusion diet

Crokky i will get you the link, the contacts bit doesn't work now but well, I WAS one of the main contacts LOL

there you go

If it gets too bad, do get help- medication and / or a drip are essential when severe

thanks for all your help and advice, it does help to know that I am not alone. i am trying to get through by knowing this is my last pg and DH absolutely MUST have a vasectomy afterwards as I can never ever face this again! the ice pops appeal to me (as much as anything can at this stage) so I think i will give them a go.

with dd, i lived on avocadoes (which i hated before i was pregnant)

this time lucozade has helped at times

i dont have breakfast anymore which helps

I had it through 36 weeks with DD, cut out the milk then and it improved dramatically. With DS I cut out milk from the word go - luckily mine is down to a build up, so I can tolerate a cup of tea but any more than that and I am ill.

It was so good to be down to just "normal" morning sickness. (I was a bit though and decided to test that it was the milk and not just a different pregnancy... messy outcome )

Mine builds up too Flame, its a casein intolerance

Crokky give the ice pops a go, see if they help

My DH is booking in for a vasectomy as well LOL, this was always my last baby anyhow but I couldn't do it again, just could not

I was told not to worry too much about food but to make sure my fluids were kept up. The doctor said to drink anything I could keep down. She said she wouldn't normally reccomend it but suggested coke or ribena because of the sugar content.

I did find it easier to keep down fluids if they were fizzy and I drank them threw a straw, but I have no idea why.

Really feeling for you as I can still remember how absoluetly dreadful I felt. And having people say things like it will onnly be for a few more weeks made me want to punch them (only I didn't have the energy).

Milkshake was great...I wasn't as bad as some, just constant severe nausea without the throwing up.
Was on Stemetil and cyclizine, neither was fabby but must have helped I think.
Thinking of you and so sorry you're in the midst of it - Peachy and others too. Was a year ago so it brings back the memories...often better in the second tri, hope it is for you all xxx

God just read this, can it really be caused by milk? got that a bit wrong then didn't I! It 'seemed' to help me when I just could not eat...

Report
Peachy · 04/09/2007 17:12

Lots of people find milk lines their stomach and does help

Homeopathy by a qualified therapist ahs success for some

Clydesdaleclopper · 04/09/2007 19:29

I got through on nothing but white bread and primula cheese spread - revolting but the only thing that stayed down.
