Nobody knows how far gone my pregnancy is

Hi all

My last period was 22/10 till 26/10.
I experienced spotting on 9/11 just for the day. Not in my knickers just wen I wiped.

I done the cheap strip tests last night 3pack one came up a faint One a visible second line and the third no line, then about a hour ago I done a clear blue digital and it came up not pregnant any ideas

Went Drs several time through November/ December weekly, they said they would send me for scan but never did in the end they remained negative Dr said he suspected it to be an early miscarriage so it was left it at that and he suggested Ijust keep doing tests.


Dr last tested 22/12/2015 test negative

I left it at that still no period through out this whole time
First week of February I did a test positive and several tests since positive drs confirmed pregnancy via urine test

I was told by Dr the midwife would arrange emergency scan midwife said no they won't send me a scan to see how far I am even though the Dr expressed the need to know the length of pregnancy

I was sent my scan date on 28Th February for me to get a scan on 22nd March long time to wait really considering nobody has a clue how far I am or if it is the same pregnancy from November or a new one


I was just wondering if anybody has experienced this or can offer any advice romcan give me some sort of idea of how far I could be - probably not but worth asking :)

No idea how far you are but you do need to know. If it is the same pregnancy from November I'd expect you to have had symptoms though. Fatigue, tender or growing breasts, nausea, frequent urination. I'd also expect you to be showing a little, though if you are already overweight that might hide it.

You either need to wait until the scan in 2 weeks or get a private scan, you can get them for as little as £40

I'm a bit confused about which of your tests happened when, but if some of the tests you did last night came back negative then it seems really very unlikely it would be the same pregnancy as in November. Good luck with the scan.

I thought it would be important to know how far the pregnancy is considering all things since November

I do occasionally get very sore nipples and also suffer from dry heaving at least ten times a day

My stomach has never returned back to shape after have my ds in 2014 so the skin is still rather loose and saggy tmi lol

I and the frer tested November to be positive and within the week tests turned negative

December tests remained negative

I didn't test at all January but still hadn't had a period so tested first week of February came up positive straight away as soon as dipped the test in urine tmi lol

So since February I have seen Dr and midwife got green notes etc but I just thought I would have a scan earlier than dated as nobody is aware of how far I am

Can you afford a private scan op? If so I would do that

As you got negative tests in December, the most likely thing is that you weren't pregnant at the time, so you probably got pregnant in January. I can't explain the no period thing, that is odd, but you do hear of this kind of thing happening. So if you got pregnant in January, you'll be no more than 12 weeks (ish) at the time of your scan, which is fine. Perhaps this is the logic the midwife is going on?

Did the midwife or doctor feel your tummy recently? I think they would be able to tell the difference between a pregnancy of a few weeks and one of several months, so they could be going on that too.

No they never checked my stomach nor asked me if I was having symptoms

I just found it odd the dr said yes to scan but midwife said no

I would want the scan to see what was going on? To make sure everything ok as this is nowhere near the pregnancy I had with my ds

I know every pregnancy different but this one is very odd

You can arrange a private scan cheaply and easily. Just book it, never mind speaking to dh about it. What does it matter what he says

It's rubbish luck that you are being mucked around with waiting for scans etc. Is there an early pregnancy unit near you that you can self refer to? Depending on when you conceived, end of March could potentially be too late for the nuchal scan and risk calculators.

I've looked on the internet prices range from £45 at one place and £80 at another and that's for an early scan

From when I received the letter for my scan it was a total 4 weeks away now I got 2 weeks left

It's not nice not knowing what's going on or if everything's ok or otherwise

That sounds ridiculous. When I conceived straight after a miscarriage (no period in between), they sent me off for a scan even though a) I was under consultant care and being scanned every two weeks and b) I knew damn well when I conceived because I'd been doing OPKs. And they still thought it was important I had one!

Go and get a private scan. And then consider changing your maternity care provider, that's all a bit bonkers really.

I had something similar happen, I didn't have a period for 3 months, lots of pregnancy symptoms, negative tests. Went to the doctor,he was very skeptical but sent me for a Blood test. Result came back and I was pregnant. Did a urine test and it came positive. Because of no periods for 3 months the doctor sent me for a scan at which point the sonographer asked me why I thought I was pregnant as there was nothing to see, just a sac. I had to go back in two weeks to check if it was a viable pregnancy.
It turned out it was but at the tine of the scan it was far too early to see, I hadn't been pregnant all along, it was just coincidence that I had gotten pregnant a week or so before the blood test!
So basically what I am trying to say in a very long winded way, is that they might not want to send you for a scan too early as it is realky stressful being told that it is too early to see anything. If that is the case I would think they are working on the assumption that you got pregnant in January, after the negative tests.

The dr said she thought it best I have an emergency scan as it's important to know the pregnancy stage

When I mentioned what the dr Siad she said no we won't send you for an emergency scan just to see how far you are all pregnancies are different

If you have any pains bleeding etc then yes

Just seemed abit dooming for me I don't like the not knowing as it doesn't make sense suspected miscarriage November pregnant February and no checks from several Drs in between even though emergency scans kept being mentioned but nothing more it's makes me feel uneasy not knowing what's happened

Congratulatoms on your BFP. Sorry about the suspected mc in Nov - Dec. It does seem like you have conceived in January sometime. I am 7 weeks today & conceived in January.
I had a mc before my DS who is now 6 & I automatically got a early scan when I fell pregnant with him. I also went for an early scan last week for this one. Abdo scam showed sac but no embryo, so was offered am internal which detected a feotus & heartbeat :)
I agree they may be holding off incase they can't pick anything up yet, but after what you have gone through they should definitely be scanning you.
Could you not see a different doctor? Xx

I have seen 4 different Drs in total all at my Drs surgery and none of them have done anything in regards to the mc or new pregnancy

No scans no checks no touching no blood tests nothing at all even though I haven't had a period since October and only a day spotting in December

Seems like they ain't really fussed tbh
I just need reassurance that everything is ok

When i was first pregnant I asked my Dr about an early scan (just because I wanted one!) and she said that if I turned up at the EPU (early pregnancy unit) at the hospital and told them I was having some tummy pains they would do it - you just have to wait. Might be worth seeing if there is any way you can do something similar at your local hospital? I wasn't comfortable with telling a fib but if it's the only way you are going to see what's going on it could be worth it? Bear in mind though if you are only just pregnant they might not see anything on a scan which could cause you more worry than you are already feeling even if all is actually fine, just very early.

Hi my friend suggested I go to the hospital complaining of pains bit like you I wouldn't be comfortable doing that at all.
It's a total different experience to when I had my ds I found out when I was 6 weeks due to me missing my irregular period at the time
But not having a period since November is odd considering tests were positive then negative
Now positive since early February

I have 13 day left to the scan the midwife booked me in for

On my green notes the edd is blank or has a question mark
I'm just keen to know how far I am and if everything's ok considering all things since November

I suppose I'll just wait till the 22nd

Your OP says you did 2 tests yesterday that were negative - Clearblue digi and FRER. is that right?

I can understand how frustrating this must be for you. Fingers crossed you get the answers you're looking for. If I were you I think I'd have to book a private scan!
