Hi all

Have a thread in chat at the moment but just wondered if anyone else is expecting twins?

We found out at an early scan last week and am now 8+5. It explains lots. This is an anxious pregnancy following our first daughter being stillborn so I am an anxious mess.

Today's anxiety: no nausea. Who knows what tomorrow's will beBlush

Would love to hear from others expecting twins, we can pretend to drink Wine and if not sick, eat Biscuit instead.

Congratulations :)

My twins are 14 months and I remember the shock at the scan too.

Congratulations! My identical twin girls are now 3 and I remember so well the shock of finding out we weren't just expecting no.3, but 3 & 4!

Keep calm - pregnancy is always scary, but having a "high risk" pregnancy even more so - the best thing you can do it stay calm.

Read lots - the more info you have the better equipped you will be - be prepared for the docs/consultants to treat this as normal, when you are freaking out because actually it's not normal and you want to know x,y & z! We found that it was very run of the mill for them (esp as we were having DCDA twins so the lowest risk group), whereas to us it was the hugest thing ever! We didn't get a lot of answers from the hospital and ended up having to find things out for ourselves. For a light-hearted, but informative book try Emma Mahoney's 'Double Trouble'.

Most of all - enjoy it! Lots of people will tell you it's he hardest thing ever (it's not), or that you will never get any sleep (you will), or that they just don't know how they'd cope (they would, and you will, because you have to!), or that twins would be their worst nightmare (again - they're not!), but keep calm, smile lots and tell everyone how excited you are to be receiving double blessings. (be like a little duck - calm and serene on top, but kicking like mad under the water!)

Congrats do you know if they are identical or fraternal? I am 23 weeks pregnant with identical girls.

She thought fraternal but says they will tell for sure at 12 week scan:).

I found out at six weeks, it was clear there was only one placenta.
I am so sorry about your daughter. Are you getting any support for your anxiety in this pregnancy?

Sorry about your daughter :( Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

My twins were DCDA and are non identical girls.

I have lots of family support and am pretty self aware in terms of recognising my anxiety for what it is!

Dh now calls me the twin bearerGrin

Just to let you know - my girls were DCDA - two sacs and two placentas. We were told (by various different health professionals) that they either definitely weren't identical, or there was a 10% chance they could be, but it was very unlikely. We didn't know what to believe so researched ourselves and found out the ones who said it was possible (but not a high percentage chance) were right and the ones who said definitely not were wrong. In the end we had DNA testing done when they were 5 months (I was convinced they were ID, but DH was convinced they weren't!) and they are - so don't necessarily take their word for it if they tell you they are definitely fraternal - they might not be!

Hi! We found out about 3 weeks ago that we're expecting (DCDA) twins - currently 10+6 weeks. 12 week scan is a week tomorrow. A support thread would be fab!
Scater: how are you feeling about the prospect of twins? I've got myself into a horrid negative headspace about it (ie. it'll be the end of my life as an independent working woman; I'll never sleep or get to go for a run again; DD1 will feel really left out; HOW DO WE COPE?! argh!!) I really need to be reminded about the positives!!

Hi Molly

I am a bit stressed about practicalities, I always said I only wanted one! Occasionally get the fear. But to be honest am just wanting them to be ok.
Had no nausea today so just been googling like a mad woman.
The number of emotions, compounded by hormones and the fact that the rest of the world doesn't know does not a good combination makeShock

Positives:
Ridiculously cute
They will be a support for each other
Your dd will be big sister to twins, that will make her cool and proud.

If it's any consolation, my morning sickness almost completely disappeared between 8+5 and 9+4, and then returned with a vengeance! Something similar happened with DD1's pregnancy too.

Morning, nausea back, not so nice but reassuringConfused

How is everyone else? I am just trying to get through the next two weeks until Christmas holidays without staff noticing my loose clothing or travel sickness bands.

Do you have plans for co sleeping your twins. I am thinking one cot downstairs and one up, having them share for the first few months.

hello hello! I was just about to launch an antenatal club on this topic when I came across your post scater. Not familiar enough with MN to know if that's a better place for it...? Perhaps we can start one there too.

Anyway, I'm 7+4 with twins (DCDA), which were meant to be our final-fling fourth child but now seem to be four and five in one! I'm coming to terms with it but do find it very daunting and I'm really worried about premature birth which I believe happens a lot with twins.

As for how you manage with 2, I can hardly begin to imagine. I take all your points homework but I still find it very daunting! So it's great to find some buddies to share the journey with...x

I have identical twin girls!

They are the cutest little girls ever, and by far the easiest of all ny children.

Obviously harder when there little and feeding etc but they have each other and keep each ither occupied.

oh yes, lady that is most reassuring! And how did you find the transition from 3-5 in one fell swoop?

And how do you manage the night feeds etc with two? Are you just awake all night? I used to bring the others into bed and feed them lying down, half-dozing. Can't see how I could do that with two...

Happy for thread to be here or antenatal groups just let me know where to be!

I too am stressed about prem labour, my daughter was stillborn at 31 weeks and I was born at 32.
