Delivered dd (10lb 11oz) naturally - minor tear, 4 stitches, all fab. Don't know about VBAC, though - hope someone comes to help soon.

mine weren't as big as yours, ds1 10lbs and ds2 10lbs 5. Ds1 failed induction ending in cs, ds2 never went into labour so cs and am expecting number 3 in september and will more than likely be having another cs. Why was dd2 an emcs?

I've certainly seen posters who've delivered babies that size by vb.

DS was 10lb 5.3 oz but was an emcs (not because of his size, though). DD was vbac but comparatively titchy.

(mind you, dd was freakishly long and her head was very nearly as big as DS's)

dd2 was 10lb 7 and a half
Had one stitch
VB with a few puffs of gas and air,2 hrs of contractions (including pushingfor 20 mins.)

She did look like a sumo wrestler though

ds was 10lb 4oz ending in emcs
dd was 7lb 11oz vb

Had a growth scan with dd so went with vb.

ds was 10lb6 - three hours start to finish, 10 minutes of pushing, no pain relief born 27 minutes after we arrived at the hospital. Tore quite a lot, but all fine.

thank goodness, was beginning to think am a bit if a freak here

dd1 was high forcep delivery after bad shoulder dystocia and dd2 was a failure to progress after 29hr labour so ended up in an emcs - I told the surgeon I didn't want the forceps again so she did everything possible to get dd2 down herself but nothing

was fully dialted etc, just didn't happen

dd1 was like a wee sumo but dd2 was slimmer, much longer at 59cm so had wondered if that made a difference but the consulant said

'when dealing in this size bracket Mrs Dixie it doesn't make a big difference'

I am not being pressured into another CS but am wondering if it would be the best option as I found recovering from an EMCS after a hellish labour long and painful, maybe an elective would lesson the recovery time rather than risk going through labour to end up emcs anyway

aarrgghhhh, why is none of this ever simple?!

Think dd had a little shoulder dystocia, but it was dealt with v. quickly. What did help (though didn't feel like it at the time) was having the gas and air taken away - focussed the mind!

DS 12lb 12oz - EMCS

No way he was coming naturally - you can see from his early newborn photos a ring around his head where it was stuck in my pelvis, his left ear was completely squished down bless him!

I'll be going for CS next time for other reasons but I think even if those other reasons didn't exist I would push for a CS based on DS' size alone.

DS was 10lb11 and I had a quite hellish labour. I had no idea he was going to be so big, although it turned out that the hospital did, "BIG BABY" was written outside the delivery room. Tbh I do sometimes wish I'd had a c section as I still have problems with continence of both sorts , so I don't know what I would do with another one. Not that you'd be likely to have the same probs, and who's to say it was because of his size, but I suspect so and would rather have had all the info at my disposal iyswim

ds1 was 7lbs 3oz and ds2 was 10lbs 8oz!!!!!

it was a bit of a shock...they were both exactly 10 days late ds1 was skinny long very white and a bit wrinkly dfficult latching on...ds2 was good birth (well quicker but more intense and strangely not as damaging below)quite painful when he was turning...sodding feet right up my ribcage.. looked like a rugby player straight off the field...steam coming off hime bright red and latched on with gusto....at 14months hes only just come back onto the centiles for his weight...he wasn't breast fed for long....! but he is so long...now that hes standing a lot hes the same height as a average two yr old...told afterwards that babies that big are usually cs deivered....but how do they know the weight before?

oh just come back to me in a flash...i had to be induced with ds2...at 10 days late, massive weight gain, had to beg my midwife to be induced....live in a rickity old three story victorian house, made appointment to see midwife and planned to make up a big lie about feeling really depressed and how i resented the baby and hated what it had done to me...and felt awful...even though i did feel shitty i wasn't resentful to baby, just my unhelpful hv....anyway that was very effective and she then and there got on the phone to hospital...felt terrible about being horrible about my darling baby!!...hasn't put me off having any more though!!

i'm sure eating box loads of crunchy nut cornflakes and whole milk didn't help but was constantly eating in that last month.

I do have a friend who had 3 dd's all over 12lb naturally .

However, my experience with ds 10.5 was that he got stuck - went for forceps trial, but ended up with ecs after 34 hrs - just what you want!

i know!!!

i do remember after having baby, for about a month, i wanted a round of applause every time i walked into a room, it is a pretty amazing thing to make a baby that size from all the goodness in your body.

the other thing about having a big baby is all the wincing and ooohing people do and you standing there thnking 'stop thinking about my bits and yes i do plan on having sex again'

Report
dizzydixies · 21/04/2008 22:19

is exactly what I don't want to happen again mistlethrush which is why am swithering over elective - don't know about you but I found an emcs following long labour hellish to recover from as everywhere was sore

am in awe of your friend though

agree about the reactions oxford but have to admit am not sure I would know what to do with a wee baby now, they are such sturdy creatures when they're big bless them. both of mine filled the hosp cots and the newborn stuff was promptly taken back and swapped up a few sizes

I'll post once I get my little sumo out! I'll tell you if all those growth scans estimated weight right or not!

Try not to worry, enjoy your pregnancy and just keep as active as poss, thats what I've tried to do, to give your body best chance of recovery no matter how you deliver!
