just interested if this could be part of why people want the amount of children they do ?

None, and I definitely wanted more than one child. Have two DD's.

However will qualify that by saying I was a very happy only child, not spoiled, and very sociable. It was only really as an adult and marrying into a fairly big family that I saw how much fun it could be.

I am one of three. And I have three.

Despite my mother saying "Never have 3 children . Packets of food only come in 4's or 6's so you'll have one too many, or not enough"

She's nuts, my mum.

One of four. I don't want four. My mum didn't handle it very well. Have two at moment.

DH and I have one brother each.
We would like to have 2 DC.

I think that it is an influence. But I also think that it depends on the individuals.

Maidarmess - I found the opposite true when I just had the 4 of us (when DS2 wasn't eating a full portion) - most packs (Chicken Breasts etc) seem to come in 3's or 6's .

We now have 3 children, I have one older brother but wasn't really sure how many I wanted until I'd had DS3 (when I realised that 3 was the number I was happy with).

DH had 5 siblings (2 older, 3 younger) and initially didn't want any

Hubby has 1 brother and loads of cousins. He wanted a big family as he loved growing up with so many cousins. His brother is not likely to have any children so we had loads so that our kids kids would have cousins.

I have 2 siblings, and wanted more than one child, but only have DS and won;t be having any more (not really my choice).

DH has 1 sibling and didn;t really want any children (I don;t think) but has 3, two from a previous marriage & DS!

Having had 2 siblings did influence what I wanted - it feels wrong to me that DS doesn;t have a sibling close in age.

I am 1 of 4.

I have 2 children & don't want anymore, always used to say i would only have 2 & i think my days of babies are over now, but i suppose only being 25 i should never say never, well actually maybe i should

I am one of 3 siblings (though for a large part of my life had cousins with us that made the number up to 5) and vowed either to have 2 or 4 because odd numbers didn't work brilliantly for us.

I am an only child and have 3 children. I would love to have more as when I was growing up all my friends had lots of siblings and I was quite envious of the fun they had.

I am one of three
DH is one of two

I am happy with 2 but could be persuaded to have a third if I had a DH that wanted more. But he doesn't.

I am one of three. And have always wanted three. But now have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old, but don't feel ready yet for a third. While I can see that have a lovely family now, and there are many reasons to stick at two, I don't think we're finished yet.
DH also one of 3.

Yes, I would say the number of children I have has something to do with how many siblings I have. I am one of three and so is dh and know my mother miscarried a baby after me (the youngest) and also MIL wanted 4 but just didn't feel she could cope. So I set out to have 4, partially to go one better than my mother and MIL (though obviously that was not my only reason).

i was one of 3 but my twin brotheer died nearly 4 years ago.my older is nearly 14 years older than me so we dont have what you would call a family relationship,we are more polite strangers.i suppose its why DD and DS only have a few years between them

I am one of three. My middle sister had horrendous middle child syndrome and still does. But I am probably going to have three - if I can (have 2 at the moment). Four would even it out better but I will be too old and too tired to have anymore.

PS expat sorry to hear that

juule - 9 - wow. I always have a faint glimmer of envy when I hear of massive families

I've got a brother to whom I am very close. DS is only a baby, but I definitely want another child in the hope that they get on as well as we do. BTW we hated each other as teenagers
