Election results - has your council changed party?

ours has gone from Tory to Lib Dem (bucking the trend!)

Was quite surprised to see Ealing has gone Tory.

The govt is reshuffling as we speak although it seems a bit like shutting the gate after the horse has bolted.

Are you in Richmond FIS - we've gone from Tory to Lib Dem.
a friend of mine has been eleceted a LibDem local councillor as well, he won by MILES!

We've gone to an almost hung council (mayor has casting vote) was overwhelmingly Lib Dem before, now split with Labour, no Tories, 1 Green.
Don't like the idea of it at all - nothing will get done, apart from arguing.

yes I'm in Richmond borough.

Was also sad to see that the BNP managed to win 13 council seats. I know they didn't get control anywhere but I think it's sad that people even think of them as an option.

should say those BNP seats aren't in Richmond (in case it read that way).

I imagine NOC is a pain - our lot used to argue alot anyway but I can't imagine what it would be like if none of them were actually in control!

Ours was Lib Dem, but essentially hung. It's now majority Labour, but still needs to negtiate as tory/Lib Dem could join forces and out vote any decisions (can't see it happening though)

the BNP thing is very depressing indeed.
apart from the obvious problems, they couldn't actually run the proverbial in a brewery, let alone any kind of political enterpise.

they seemed to be targetting us a bit here (in Whitton) as we've had loads of BNP stuff through the door (DH very upset about this). But I was never there when it came through so I could chase after them and make them take it back - was really looking forward to it.

my friend is now a councillor in Richmond.

sorry, my brain is not in gear at all today!

yes, I suppose that is true about not missing meetings. You may find that they'll take up local stuff just to have a fight so maybe more things will get done!

It's all over the news in France, they are saying that loads of people have voted for the BNP and have interviewed racist people on the street praising Nick Griffin.

I take it that it's not quite like that then?

the only people I've heard saying the BNP are marvellous are in Barking and Dagenham. That seems to be where the BNP have done the best. apart from there I don't think they've made any significant gains. still flipping depressing though!

it's not got control of any council Rhubarb (the BNP) but it is now the second largest party in Barking and Dagenham (according to the beeb). It doesn't tend to follow through to a general election (their success) so let's hope that's the case!

plus the local tories have been campaigning to get it back AND they were the only ones who even bothered shoving a leaflet through our door.

i think that the labour candidates round here may have got a bit too relaxed about stuff and not done as much as they could to get the votes in

We didn't have a local election for some reason. Shame really, as our present council would be out by now, as they are shockingly wasteful. (We live in Bath, where billions have been spent on a spa that was meant to be opened 5 years ago. We are still waiting. In the meantime, our council tax bills go up and up to fund the bloody thing)
