Actually I've more or less done the oven now I need to tackle the shelves.
I'm tempted to buy new ones it's that bad.

No...I used the stuff that you put the shelves in a plastic bag (supplied) and then add the liquid..it eats the nasty butnt on stuff and you have silver shelves again...

will try and remember name

Yes it says on the packet "the one with the bag". Its brilliant, shelves spotless.

The stuff in an orange box - oven brite, something like that. I think it's the same one as Dropdead used. Absolutely the DB's.

None of them. Call in Ovenu. It will be the best money you spend this year.

oven pride, you will buy it, follow the instructions then spend days eulogising about how wonderful it is sounding just like the advert.

...or is that just me?

Just how often do you clean your oven.

My excuse is that i grew up with an aga(clothkits era not boden) and can't really believe the oven needs cleaning more than once a year.Honest!

Mr Muscle - just spray it on, leave for a while and everything then wipes off.

Oven Pride is Gods gift to lazy slatterns.

I heart it.

I use it on my heavily used oven every 2-3 weeks

Report
zanz1bar · 29/01/2009 18:40

Oh god now i do feel like a slatten.

Thethoughtpolice..really? every 2/3 weeks?

TheThoughtPolice · 29/01/2009 18:41

Yup. We cook a lot of roasts etc and my oven isn't lined with foil so it does need doing

pushchair · 29/01/2009 18:43

Does oven pride go on the bottom of oven too?

Btw what is the use of 'self cleaning' sides to ovens when the bottom is the bit that gets encrusted in burnt on macaroni cheese that bubbled over, cake that was too big for the tin, chip fat from when DP put oven chips on the baking tray with holes in it and slopped over the edge straightforward grease?

Report
TheThoughtPolice · 29/01/2009 18:45

pushchair yes it does. I can put it on the 2 sides and the bottom of mine but not the top (because of the element) and not the back because the fan is there and the back is made of a funny material which doesn;t like oven cleaners

jazzandh · 29/01/2009 19:13

I put the cleaner on the shelves. Leave overnight in oven. Bung in a hot wash in dishwasher and halfway through the cleaning cycle, get them out, quick once over with a scouring pad to dislodge the gunk and back in to finish. No elbow grease required!

Report
Goober · 29/01/2009 19:16

Mr Muscle and brillo pads. I put stuff onto the shelves and leave for an hour.

Report
pushchair · 29/01/2009 19:16

Sounds brilliant! Does it cost an arm and a leg?

Report
zanz1bar · 29/01/2009 19:19

Hangs head in shame and moves teatowel over oven door.
I roast have a cow every weekend and didn't even think about tin foil on the bottom floor of oven.

Honestly, the "self cleaning" sides are useful. The sides of my oven got very messy (they're not self cleaning).
Much harder to clean the sides than the bottom manually if you think about it. Harder to use elbow grease.
So how much roughly is Oven Pride? Where do you get it from?
