June 2014: half way through the Flying year, fledglings get themselves in gear!

Heartfelt and huuuumungous thanks to Goth for being such a superlative, consistent and professional thread leader throughout May (and wow to all those fantastic round-ups every night).

If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

Flylady link here.

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework, which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

It's up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  1. start or repeat baby steps

  1. repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

  1. reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

More info here on getting started and Flying lessons. Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings.

Don't be put off by the barf-tastic language of the site - the underlying system is sound!

Three key points to keep in mind:
(1)No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine
(2)You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
(3) It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new then trying to spend 15mins decluttering and the babysteps is the most. Some of us (mentioning no names!) can have scary looking lists but don't let that worry you! Do what you can, anything is better then nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

If all else fails, a Brew + the power of three technique + a bit of support on here can work wonders!

Oh and don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey – some of us have been on here for years – but all lurkers, oldies and newcomers very very welcome!

Aagh, sorry, just posted that when I meant to preview it!

Meant to say, if you are new, then spending 15 mins decluttering every day + doing the baby-steps is a good way to start!

BBL to post tomorrow's steps!

Reporting for duty Miss!

Got back from holiday yesterday, did a HUGE post and then lost it!

Whoknows glad to see your DF is out of hospital. Fingers crossed for a full recovery.

Carpe I know nothing about stress related hair troubles but I am going grey in a slow distinguished sort of way!

Am going to potter around today and tomorrow - shopping & gardening in order but I can report that I have completely unpacked and removed all of the rubbish from the car AND the washing is done which is a minor miracle in these parts.

Popped into Aldi yesterday and managed to buy an ice cream maker Confused so there is some home made strawberry ice cream in the naughty corner.

Many thanks to Goth for fabulous thread leadership and round ups last month Thanks Thanks Thanks.

And also thanks to SC for the June thread.

Have finished my essay Shock. Am putting it away now and will re-read it tomorrow, do some more tinkering, then email it through. Such a relief to have finished it.

Should do some ironing now (boring).

I'm backGrin. Muchos apologies for absence during May. Going back to work took some getting used to and it was silly season with GCSE's and it was all I could manage to get through it.

Life gets a little easier now as my Year 11's have gone which makes me actually only teach for 11/25 periods a week although am marking gcse's for some extra pennies.

I have also got called for bloody jury service, in the first two weeks of my bloody summer holidays. Bummer. Could defer but would only have to do it in the next year, in my holidays so as not to abandon my 6 million gcse classes so if am going to lose holidays might as well lose summer when i will still have 4 weeks left. Arses.

Big waves to everyone. Thanks To goth for last month and Thanks to sc for this. Wine all roundGrin.

Grin Hello all! I am hoping with the arrival of June we may get some summer weather Hmm I haven't done any flying today just a bit of pottering.

I feel bad that I haven't led the thread yet, but would be willing to have a go in August when there is no school work for me to be swamped by.

Im putting the dc to bed shortly and then have some coursework to do. I have 7 weeks left and cannot wait for a break!

I need to declutter again. Things are slowly slipping back to chaos here.

So, June is the new Jan!

Thanks Goth for last month and SC for taking over.

Ellie - I've done jury service twice and it has been fascinating, I hope yours goes smoothly. Bummer about the holidays, but as you say, there's no good time when you're a teacher.

DWM - thank you, been to see DF today and he is much better. Thanks also for the reminder, I need to dig out the bowl from my ice cream maker and get it into the freezer.

Nice day today, took DS for a tryout with Riding for the Disabled this morning. They haven't got a regular space for him at the moment but he can go in the holidays, he loved it. Took DD to see DDad this afternoon and we played boardgames and chatted. DD wants to play another game now, better go.

SC marvellous opening post Thanks am putting my feet up now...Grin

Toffee Yay over finished essay.

Ellie what a downer with the jury service, DH has had a letter saying he may be called up, but he's been lucky so far.

WhoKnows that's good that DS can go riding in the summer.

Am absolutely shattered, we spent the day at the Market garden clearing couch grass. But it looks like we've got a plot in the Urban Croft, we're going to start clearing it and building raised beds on Monday! Plus helping build a goat pen.

Good evening all! Lovely to see everyone wandering in ...

Not feeling too chipper today (stomach grumbles) so very happy long day is over! DD sang beautiful solo at Confirmation Mass. Huge congregation so very proud of her. Also (wierdly) and nearly simultaneously, the King whizzed past in his limo as did a parade of Harley Davidson riders from all over Europe.

Lovely photos on previous thread Engels very impressed that you and your dh have achieved all that by yourselves.

You certainly deserve to put your feet up this evening Goth

Very good to hear that your father is still improving Whoknows and so glad your ds enjoyed his RDA session! They are a terrific organisation (I was very much involved with them at one point when I lived in the UK and still do a bit of fund-raising now). Hope your ds can get a permanent place soon; the difference riding can make to a child's balance, physical fitness, patience and morale is incredible to see! Just being around well-trained horses is good/calming for the soul and brilliant for developing communication skills and body-awareness (sorry - not expressing this very well - tired) because they are non-verbal, you have to carefully read any minute bodily signs they give out- and they read yours too!

Carpe don't worry one second about thread running; sounds like your physical health is a priority atm Thanks

Mercury yes, can't believe end of academic yr/summer holidays are approaching so fast! We break up at midday on 27th June here Shock Thank you very much for volunteering to poss run thread in Aug - but ONLY if you have the time - you have such a lot on your plate as it is.

Great to see you back Ellie, I'm not surprised that recuperation/returning to work/exams took it out of you. That's very bad luck about jury service being in the holidays. I did it twice when I worked in London and both times it was very intense but interesting. Remember to take stuff with you to do because there is sometimes a lot of waiting around as well.

Well done on completing your OU assignment Toffee!

Waves back to DroitwichMummy, Blue and everyone else!

Brilliant that we have potential volunteers for July (Toffee) and August (Mercury) already!!! But only if things in rl remain manageable remember!

OK, here we go again:

Baby-step no. 1 for Sun 1st June 2014 is here. Shine your sink!

(Newcomers, if you don't know how to do this, look here! )

Today we will be starting again in Zone 1: Entrance, Front Porch & Dining Room here. Declutter for 15 mins in this zone.

No missions because it is the weekend.

The daily focus for Sunday is renewing your spirit ie doing something just for you that makes you feel refreshed/rejuvenated [SC quells hysterical cackles]

The new monthly habit for June is drinking water although I'm going back to February's habit of decluttering 15 mins a day

G'night/good morning!

Morning one and allSmile. Finally the sun decides to come out in the last day of the holidays which I do believe is called the law of sod.

Had a lovely night out with DS last night at SIL's 40th do. We were all supposed to be going, DD and I went shopping for a new dress and everything. Then, last night DD decided to come down with the pox. Cue lots of crying because she couldn't go to the party. And lots of money spent on chocolate cake and DVd's at Tesco to comfort. And a coin flip to see who stayed with her. We were planning a trip to local farm park today but can't go now.

Currently in the middle of decorating the dining room properly for the first time since we moved here. Walls are all stripped, rewiring done and now to plaster. This means that house is in chaos and I am desperately trying to keep on top of it. Plus washing machine appears to be stuck on one cycle which doesn't spin. Grrrr.

To do:-
General tidy
Washing to mil's
Clean bathroom
Clean living room
Marking
Tend to a spotty DD.

Back later.

Thanks SC - yes, my friend's son has been riding with this group for a couple of years and it has made a big difference to him. Unfortunately even when a permanent slot does come up (probably September) DS won't be able to take it up as it will clash with hockey training (the only other beginners groups are within school hours) but I will try and get him to as many holiday sessions as as I can.

Ellie - sorry to hear about the pox, bummer.

Must go and get some washing on, lovely drying day here.

Just popping in to say my intention today is to MARK the piles of books and projects that have been cluttering up my mind for far too long. DH has taken DS off for the day to ILs caravan so I reckon I have until 5pm by myself (6 and a half hours and counting!). I will ONLY go on MN in between projects/classes (have 4 to mark!) and that is a solemn promise Grin

Realistically I don't think I will get all of them done today, but I need to make a dent for myself.

Listening to Radio 2 and ready to go.
