How is the A2 revision going?

I just wondered how A2 revision was going? It seems a while ago since our DCs completed their UCAS forms and now A2 exams are just round the corner, if they have not already started. It is 87 days until they get their results!
In our family we have one A2 subject complete and 2 more to go plus some 2nd year university exams.
Good luck to all those DCs taking exams.

4 A2s in this house. School thankfully don't do study leave and one subject is doing a morning over half term too so although he hasn't got his head in the books as much as I would like, I know he's still having to do essays and past papers for homework every night.

There was a post on the teenagers thread about a Biology A2 exam going badly and the worry of not getting the grades for the firm offer. Suddenly made me panic that ds1 might not make the grade and I'm not particularly keen on his insurance.

My dd's working pretty hard. School till after half term, then some lessons arranged after that. I must say, I did a couple of the same A levels as her in the dim and distant past, and I think what she's doing is very hard. Certainly doesn't seem dumbed down in any way.

Dd2 has GCSEs too and ds has a few modules in Y10 so it's all go in our house!

I just think dd so deserves to do well. Too stressful. I did my A levels at 17, the year before doing my then UCCA form so never had any of this pressure.

No A2s for a while here yet. Good luck to everyone's dcs.

It was me posting on the teen board:( My Dd2 has worked so bloody hard, and todays Biology exam has left her distraught:( She is on course for A/high Bs for two of her A levels but has struggled with the Biology and is now convinced she won't get the grade for her firm choice. I actually am very happy with her insurance choice..it may not be RG like her firm but she is doing an NHS degree so really it isn't so relevant.. (tho sorting accommodation will be a pain) but she is very stressed.

I hate it. This is my 5th consecutive year of watching my kids go through GCSE and A levels I have 4 teens!) and the pressure they are under is just awful. My A levels were no where near as bad!

Supplying tea and sympathy here..and a night OFF from revision!

First maths exam tomorrow - ds will be glad to get started now. Then another more important maths one next Friday and the rest are after half term so not getting stressed here yet.

We will be very glad once they are over.

My dd1 is looking tired and fed up. I think she's working very hard and is on study leave. Can't wait until they are finished and she looks her normal self. Only 5 weeks to go- hey ho.

Only just finished with the bloody AS thread and DD2's exams and now this with DD1. She's had one exam already (Geog), the rest are after half term.

Third consecutive year for me, another 3 to go. For now. DS in Year 10 so most GCSEs next year, but also have a three year old DD. she can go down the mines, can't do this stress

DD1 is working pretty hard and is hopefully on target for her predicted, so keeping all thing crosses.

Good luck to all those with exams this week.

Ds1 is already on study leave and is busy driving me mad with Chem and Biology revision practise. It's lovely to have him here at the mo, spent a lot of time together sorting through finance and stuff. Will be busy teaching how to cook all summer and am writing up a recipe book for him to take to uni.

Exams start in June and he only has three to do so hopefully all will run smoothly.

Good luck to all you DC's and yes I can second the 'only feels like yesterday' thing. I can't believe my PFB will be leaving the nest in a few months - sob.

Medusa - hope it all works out for your DD. Don't envy you all those consecutive years of exams. We get 10 years to build up to Ds2's.

DS never appears to get stressed. He's out tonight and been persuaded by his boss to work this weekend. I've only just checked his timetable and seen he has exams on the Monday and Tuesday straight after half-term, so it may be pushing it a bit. DS3 is doing GCSEs at the moment, DS2 has just done a couple of AS and DD1 is sweltering up country doing Law Finals: nine subjects in eleven days. I'm pretty tense, even if they're not.

Blimey Yellowtip that's a lot of worrying to do. I'd have no finger nails left. It's good that they are taking it all in their stride though.

Report
Yellowtip · 31/05/2012 14:30

My fingernails are in tatters anyhow melody because I'm doing a very concerted spate of gardening in every spare moment by way of displacement :).

Not sure about stride. DS1 seems cool, DS3 is just getting on with it but I think the stress levels up at university are fairly extreme. It's those exams which I badly want over.

Stress gardening - yep with you on that. Garden is very tidy here. Have also cleaned out the loft and reboxed everything and have been busy cataloging all the books at the new school library.

sent dh to his parents with ds2 and ds3 for half term to try and create a conducive environment here for working. School putting on a revision class tomorrow 10- 3 but I think stress levels are getting dangerously high as he has started talking (in a rather resigned way) about having another 3 years at school.

Report
goingmadinthecountry · 06/06/2012 22:53

It's mad, isn't it? Fancy having to send other dcs off. No criticism implied obviously, just can't believe the pressure. Was it really like this for us? I certainly don't remember it.

I have 3 on exams (Ys 10, 11 and 13) plus a lovely little 8yo who doesn't get why no-one will play with her for long.

Am drinking more.

The FE college where I work doesn't have a summer half term and its not fair to ask ds1 to babysit 2 db (both asd) and revise at the same time. Figured it was easier for them to go rather than dh take the week off and try and keep order here.

This rain is a big help though. DS doing History, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in turn but said yesterday his concentration was shot, I think he just wants them to start.

DD1 should have just put her pen down on her final final paper (12.30). A huge, huge relief. I've been trying not to pester, but I've felt the pain from afar.

Been ok so far only have 4 in June . But my husband asked me do I think he'll get what he needs and I started to get seriously worried and didn't sleep all night! Hate this bit it's the last time and my youngest has had some ups and downs but he's here now thank god this is the last time I'm doing this ( although you wouldn't know it to look at me! ) good luck everyone .

sheldee I know exactly what you mean. As parents we all know we can do nothing about their exam results so worrying doesn't really help. However, I that doesn't stop me and I too will continue until 16th August!!!
My DC just has 2 exams next week and then it is all over....

A mother I know worked out that her son just needs 2 x D grades on these last units to meet his LSE offer. Thinking knowing something like that would help me remain calm, I tried to look at the grade boundaries and add up the accrued ums to see just what ds needs but can't reconcile raw marks to ums so ended up getting nowhere!

15 days and its all over here

After the exams are over I find there's a long period of putting it to the back of one's mind until the day before results, when things get hairy.

We're lucky in that we shift up to Scotland for two weeks in the intervening period and come back just before results. That helps a lot.

Report
gelatinous · 09/06/2012 19:03

ds should be OK for his offer unless something catastrophic occurs, so we've not got that anxiety and he is calmly doing some programming challenges today and doing lots of piano practice which he always does when he ought to be revising but doesn't want to (although to be fair he does actually need to be doing some piano at the moment as he has a concerto concert coming up).

I have told him it's not a good idea to count his chickens too soon, and that him being so laid back is making me feel more tense. 3 exams this week for him and then maybe 2 more optional ones the week after.

I hope the weather cheers up once the exams are over.
