I home eductae now because my dd is very bright, but how do you find out a childs IQ? Is there an online test? Do schools offer one?
Just out of interest really.

Why do you want to? IQ is a very blunt and inaccurate system of assessing intelligence, and it won't help her in any way to have a number attached to her. Can't you just enjoy teaching her and forget about trying to measure her brainpower? Just a thought.

What about MENSA and this ?

How old is your dd? IIRC children have to be at least 10 or 11 to be able to sit a Mensa test. The Ed.Psych did some IQ testing with ds2 but said that this wasn't something she would normally do with young children. (Ds2 is autistic). If your dd is too young for the Mensa test you could probably see a private Ed.Psych but tbh, as Sniff says, it doesn't really mean anything.

In my experience, schools do all sorts of tests that they don't necessarily tell you about. And they can be so subtle that the kids they are assessing don't even know about them!!
Can you ask your previous school for whatever information they have? They have to tell you the details they hold about your child, under Data Protection legislation.

An IQ test establishes how well your child does in IQ tests, that's all.

and he reads crapola books

Tested IQ of 154 and he thinks Stephen King is a good writer.

Ladies, I rest my case

We stayed in a hotel once where there was a Mensa convention going on at the same time. Bizarrely, some of the Mensa guests had real trouble operating the lift buttons. Surreal.

MB, I have no idea what Mr Inferior's IQ is but his fiction reading is entirely confined to sci-fi/fantasy. You've never seen so many titles with the word Dragon in them.

Stephen King is a good writer

just because he's not poverty-stricken, living in a studio apartment and working in a bar whilst he writes his tomes

LOL our Dh's would get on! My dh only reads books if they have a single word title with a raised print on the cover, usually in silver or gold.

Something like 'Vortex' would jump off the shelves into his hands

Wheras, 'Leaves fall in the Wilderness' would leave him cold

Oh as a PS I read the new Anita Diamant book (the woman who wrote the Red Tent reconeded to me by Jimjams). rattling good read.
