to a VAD. looks like peter will have double exterior pump fitted tomorrow (tho have been told this all could change in the OR). it means he wont be coming home. not till after transplant.

he is going to miss dd2 birthday, he is going to miss dd3 growing from baby to almost toddler. this isnt fair.

Misdee - do you have a video camera - so you can 'record' bits of the kids special occasions - and just general day to day stuff for him to watch once he's had the op, transplant and come home??

i'm pretty shook up about this. instead of a nice neat little box and a few wires attached tim carried i na bag/rucksack/bumbag type thing), its now a visable pump. you'll be able to see the blood flowing through it, it will initially be conected to a large 'air pump'. after that if he does well it will be compacted down to a machine which can be wheeled about on a trolly similar to the old granny style wheeler shopper things. i know i wont have to do any of the aftercare like i would've done with the jarvik pump, but i cant get over the fact he wont be coming home for a lot longer than originaly stated.

what if dd3 forgets who he is? the older 2 wont be able to see him for a while either.

i was shown round ITU today, was very busy, and a bit intimadating.

dd3 WONT forget her daddy.... the video idea is great, lots of photos and of course talking to the kids about daddy.

it is going to be a very hard few months for you and we are all here for you. We all want ot make things better, and through our prayers we hope the right thing will happen soon.

You have my email address honey, and i am prepared to come and help you out for a few days in the summer.

Misdee I am so sorry. As I have said before please ask if you think I might be able to help with anything you need clearing up. ITU looks very busy, but it is one on one nursing care, so there should be someone who can usually take a moment or too to explain things to you as they go. Does he need the 3 months post op this time around to recover enough for a transplant?

misdee · 05/07/2005 21:49

i hope so twiglett. without he wont be here in a few weeks. its not a 'normal' operation as its quite risky, but they have tried everything else. and he will still need a transpalnt ASAP after the recovery period.
