Hi
I have Googled this and found a few other women have experienced it but no 'answers' iyswim.

Last night sitting on the sofa it felt as if a heavy period was starting suddenly. I'm not having periods while I take a 3 month course of Esmya to reduce the size of my fibroid.

I stood up and fluid gushed out of my fanjo (about half a pint or more I'd say). It felt just like waters breaking (have had 3 DC}. The fluid had no smell or obvious colour. TMI but I saved the soaking pants till this morning and they still have no smell so def not wee.

I don't want to go to the out of hours doctor so I'll wait till Tues to go to my own practice but I wondered if anyone here has ideas about what this could be. I'm quite freaked out about it, re what is the fluid and will it happen again. I had absolutely no control over it and I'm going out today so def don't want it happening again.

OK am going to have to ask as someone will. Are you sure you're not pg?

Yes absolutely. My DH had a vasectomy years ago and I always 'caught' the first month so would have had a million kids by now.

I used to have a few v large fibroids and when having treatment to reduce their size I also lost what appeared to be a large amount of fluid but it wasn't clear & specifically happened after/as a result of the treatment. However, this seems v different from what you've described.

Can you call NHS Direct?

CathyComeCamping · 26/08/2012 09:43

had you had a bath? i think water can kind of pool there and gush out later.

FussArse · 26/08/2012 09:50

No bath, Cathy.
If I ring NHS Wales they'll just tell me to go to the out of hours clinic and I'd rather wait to see my doctor.
Does anyone know what the etiquette would be about ringing my gynae's secretary on Tues or should I go to my GP?

Squashed - can I be nosy and ask what your treatment was and whether it worked please.

I sometimes have this, and put it down to the bath water pooling theory. It doesn't always happen after a bath though.

i get after bath too ...

I'd go to GP on Tuesday, but if not reassured, then can't see anything wrong in politely phoning the gynae sec, and asking if you could have a call back from one of the gynae doctors/specialist nurses if they have any.

I'm not sure it is quite that much but I do get similar when I ovulate. Or could it be a post-coitus thing?

Report
FussArse · 27/08/2012 13:17

Thanks for your replies.
I have had a similar thing after baths before but nowhere near as much volume ie half a pint or so! If I had been out somewhere I'd have been mortified (and needed a mop!)
Sadly, OldBoots, it was not post-coitus. Grin

I do feel that the volume in my abdomen has gone down though the fibroid seems to be the same as it was. I remember thinking the day before that it seemed to have got bigger since I started the tablets. I was wondering about a cyst bursting.

I will try as you suggest TheLightPassenger.

I had fibroid embolisation treatment. My Gynae Consultant was brilliant but initially said that I was too young to have a hysterectomy and so suggest embolisation. The idea was to shrink the fibroids so that the bleeding/discomfort would reduce and then if required, consider another form of treatment to actually remove them.

I've written about it on here previously so I won't repeat the whole sorry tale (feel free to pm me though if you want, I'd be more than happy to chat). The procedure was absolute hell because the Radiologist failed to give me local anesthetic and I ended up in intensive care and suffered v rare complications. I'm in the process of taking legal action against the Hospital.

I eventually had a hysterectomy & things are now fantastic ie I feel great.

Despite my experience with embolisation, I wouldn't advise against it if it was offered. My experience was v rare ie it was a whole string of unfortunate events that wouldn't normally all happen together. I spoke at length to my Consultant before I had it done (he is one of the best Gynae Consultants in London apparently) and I was satisfied at the time that it was the right treatment for me. Nothing could've predicted what actually happened.

Sorry this is so long but I'm rubbish at being concise!

Thanks for that, Squirrel.
I had mine embolised over 10 years ago - the first in Wales! I had read about it online and went to ask for it, to be told they knew very little about it. The consultant wrote a few months later to ask me if I wanted to be first.

It did nothing for me really and didn't reduce the size. Sorry to hear you had a really nasty time of it - it sounds horrific.

The only benefit was that I think it made my third labour really fast as my womb managed to contract as a whole without syntocinon (sp?) that I'd needed to deliver DCs 1 and 2 pre embolisation.

The consultant's face was an absolute picture when I turned up at 40 weeks preg and no one had alerted him to the fact that I'd been embolised. He went white and virtually tore up my birth plan saying I'd have to have this, that and the other for 'safety'. DC3 had other ideas, though, and arrived almost as soon as I got into the delivery room!

I'm now trying Esmya which has only been licensed since April for this use so I don't know whather I'm a pioneer, a guinea pig or a mug!

Wow - I wish I'd chatted to you before I had my embolisation. I didn't realise the procedure was being carried out 10 yrs ago. It's a shame it didn't work.

So glad all was ok with your third labour and your DC3.

I've just read up on Esmya - I must admit, I got to the point where I would've taken almost anything to help with the pain and bleeding. I hope it's successful for you.

Hi there ,
I know this is an old post but when this happened to me I couldn't find any answers on internet so thought I would post y experience .
I'm on mirena coil for year and a half now no problems. I went to bed as normal and woke up soaking wet I mean my knickers and bed were sopping wet. Run to bathroom thinking I having a period or something worse expected to see blood it was gushing. But no it was water, I thought I've weed the bed bit it didn't smell so I sat on loo had massive wee and knew it wasn't as it like when my waters broke when I was in Labour. Clear water sweet smell to it. Anyway was a weekend so not normal doctors rang 111 nhs helpline then said to see a out of hours doctors. After nurse feeling tummy and takingdetails sent me up to surgical assessment ward to get properly checked. Blood tests urine and retelling story hundred times later, all health professionals seemed baffled by the water gushing and didn't have any idea. the registrar said it was an ovarian cyst that had emptied/burst. I said I don't have cysts or anything. She said all women have them at some point and it's only ones that cause problems we know about. so hope this helps I also didn't have any pain other than slight cramping. So don't panic if u feel well in yourself and this happens as this could be the same. I also my add I'm a bit of a lump after 3 young children in quick succession, and was exercising the day before high impact, and this happened that night/early morning so may of giggled something about Hense why could of burst.but could of happened anywhere.

Hope this reassure someone and helps

Just wanted to add that I am also on Mirena and 100% the same thing just happened to me.. Wondering if it's coincidence or if Mirena has something to do with it?
If anyone else has had this experience please add

I have had the exact same thing happen to me this morning and this thread has helped me so much. I'm also on the Mirena Coil - had really really bad period pain last night before I went to bed, woke up and went to make a cup of tea and it was like I'd wet myself but it wasn't wee. Was so worried but feel slightly better knowing this has happened to others - I'm thinking of getting mine removed because it's caused me noting but trouble and discomfort anyway and I'm covered with spots now.

I've no idea what it is, but if it does happen to be cysts, aren't ovarian cysts more common with Mirena?

I've just had same thing and I'm kinda panicked because I'm so confused what's happened. Unlike most of you I haven't had the implant and am on no contraceptive rn. I had a miscarriage in February but still felt pregnant but have had nothing since. I'm younger and never had this happen before. Just very confused.... Confused

So glad I found this page. I’ve had this happen many times in my life but never knew why it was happening. One thing that I have noticed that was consistent when it happed though was I had recently eaten ice cream every time. Now, I’m wondering if there is something in ice cream that could effect my ovarian cyst. I have a pretty large one on my left ovary and never thought about the liquid coming from it until I read this thread. I also have very large uterine fibroids but don’t want to have an operation. My gyno said the fibroids were too big to remove in office and I don’t want to be opened up to all the dangers in a hospital, so I’m just waiting to reach menopause which should be soon because my FSH levels are very high and I’m 49. Thank you so much for this info. Glad we can all share our experiences.

Same thing happen to me in middle of the night. I’ve been cramping on and off ever since then. I’m glad I found this post but still a little scared to find out what the doc has to say on Tuesday. But I thank all you all for sharing.

I'm not on mirena nor did I have any cramping. I literally woke up in a confused puddle and when I stood up the liquid just kept coming. I had to put my short between my legs to keep it from getting all over the floor. I had 0 control! It felt like when my water broke but I'm not pregnant. I'm just going to keep note of it because I'm not in pain or anything. Thanks for your post I can breathe now knowing that I won't drop dead from anything weird.Smile

Had the very same thing happen to me last night.
Couldn’t find anything on line about this only here. I’m so pleased it’s not just me. 40 years old no children and not on any birth control or medicine.
Woke up and my bed was literally drenched. It couldn’t have been wee as I went before bed and halfway through the night. Didn’t smell like wee either. I don’t have a bath, shower only so defo wasn’t any water in there.
Just couldn’t understand what had happened!??
I have started my period today so that may have something to do with it?
