Anyone had the Mirena Coil?

I was sure there was a section for contraception did i dream this? Anyway, I am not the best at remembering my pill and the doc has suggested a Mirena Coil. Has anyone here had/got this and if so, how do you find it? Also, and this is the bit thats worrying me, how much does it hurt when it gets put in (grimace)!!

I have one, cant wait to have it taken out ina couple of months. It has made me remain a size larger than i want to be even with exercise and it has made me very spotty. Also dh can feel it during sex, it says it stabs him.

whne you have it put in ask them to put the strings up otherwise liek me you could end up travelling home on the bus feeling like you are being stabbed in the fanny. I cant really remember it being overly painful but i remember sweating and feeling sick when the stretched my cervix and i did take painkillers before.

Plus side my period has been reduced but in loss and amount of days so much that i dont use anything now. I am not looking forward to that gping.

I had the mirena fitted last month. It didnt hurt when they put it in,but i did have pretty bad cramps on the night. Ive yet to stop bleeding (its only very light) but i was told that this was normal for 3-6 months (big knickers for that long NOOOOO!!!)
BUT apart from the bleeding, ive not had any side effects (yet) and i cant WAIT for my periods to lessen if not stop altogether!
I keep meanin to get my b/f to check see if he can feel the threads cos i sure as hell cant!!!
Least if it does cause you any bother,u can get it taken out and return back to normal pretty quick (apparently!)
Good luck hoolagirl
xx

I had one and it made me depressed and hell to live with. Felt very out of control, and I bled constantly for 9 months then I had it removed. Don't know weather the coil is to blame though or if it's just me, I've always been very sensitive to hormones. OTOH, my sister has had one for 5 years and loves hers!

it didnt hurt so much going in but it was very uncomfortable, a bit like having an indepth smear. i still have periods every month 1 year on but they are a lot lighter, three of friends have them and they dont have periods at all. Have to say i did feel a bit shakey after had mine put in wasnt till after event they told me you can feel faint, but its like childbirth you alway hear horror stories but its not that bad is it.

i decided not to get it b/c of possible side effect of bleeding for months. what's the point of contraception if your partner doesn't want sex b/c you're bleeding nonstop?

that for me was the deal breaker.

at least w/the pill you don't need a bloody appointment for someone to take it out of you.

i went for the pre-coil exam and my cervix is still eroded and a bit sensitive from childbirth as it is - 10 weeks postpartum.

so i got on cerazette.

university of edinburgh is testing out a new drug that they hope will stop women from having all that irregular bleeding BUT you have to have not used hormonal contraception for an entire month before that.

condoms are wicked uncomfortable for DH and i hate them, too, so being part of that study was out for us.

hi, had mirena for two mnths - hormonal cow from hell.... spots you can see from the moon, one stone on and counting, eating the county as long as its got sugar in it.....no bleedin to speak of.

on the plus side? i've been on and off AD's for three years and ADD to boot (yes, I'm an adult). right now my house is more tidy than Its been for years and I wake up in the morning feeling full of beans , if not slightly manic. Certainly getting things done.

what do I do? soon I will have the tidiest house in Britain but no parter and my kids will hate me? send me chocolate........... kt

spots and weight gain are my two biggest nightmares. aside from being pregnant again and going thru the newborn phase a third time in this dinky flat the size of a phone box.

Hoolagirl - was a bit nippy going in and I had it for almost three years during which time I was period free! Bliss! Came out a month ago because I had a lot of bleeding over a sustained number of weeks but I would absolutely recommend them. No mood swings, no weight gain, no spots, no nothing. Fab invention.

I'm having one fitted this Sat along with a D&C (what joy), as that is being done under anesthetic it should be fine.

Consultant has been fitting them for 6 years so he now has patients with their 2nd. He has only ever removed one for anything other than to get pregnant, and that was for persistent bleeding. No patients with weight gain, mood swing problems, and I do believe he is not just saying that. My GP also has one and says it is brilliant, again no side effects.

It has got to be worth a go.

I have had two - one for approx. 3yrs before DD and one fitted about 3mths after she was born. First one was absolutely marvellous - no periods, no moody side effects, but then I was living a different life then, so probably didn't notice amongst the hangovers!

I had the second one removed after 3yrs as the mood swings were getting appalling, with the interval between them growing ever shorter and I was borderline pyschotic at times - really rather scary. Weepy, emotional, depressd, violent rages, fat - not a pretty sight! Now, 5mths on, I feel almost back to normal and am a lot nicer to live with. I think that I just can't do hormones any more after the upheaval of pregnancy. I suffered from PND for the first 12-18mths after DD was born and this could have been partly due to the presence of coil hormones or may have masked the effects of the coil - I am sure most docs would poo-poo a link, but I am not sure...?? My doctor did concur that moods swings were a known side effect, when she removed it but I don't think this is something alot of them admit.

Also, it KILLED my libido stone dead. Happily it is just starting to re-emerge!

I think it is a marvellous form of contraceptive for those for which it works - no periods, hassle free. However, if you have a pre-exisiting intolerance to the pill/hormones, I would proceed cautiously and be aware of the possible side effects. For all those who are happy with their Mirenas, I am extremely - it is such an easy form of contraception. I am toying with a non - hormone coil or sterilisation as I can't do condoms and the rythym method is just a little too scary for me to be a long term solution to NOT getting pregnant!

It was mildly uncomfortable to put in both times, but no worse really than a smear and I didn't even notice them taking it out ( apart from the fact I was lying on my back naked from the waist down with my legs in the air, that is!)
