Picked DD (nearly 5) up from school on Thursday and teachers said she had been miserable and burning hot. I dosed her up with calpol and she fell asleep on the sofa when we got home and she has barely been awake since . I have woken her to give her water and medicine and take her to the toilet and obviously put her to bed at night, all she wants to do is sleep, all day and all night - she hasn't eaten anything. Got her to the doctor this morning and he said a flu bug was going round and just give her calpol and nurofen. But I'm still worried about her .

no wonder sandyballs.
However bear in mind that it is v natural for any child to want to sleep when not well as ths is when their body does the best repair.
Is her temp down now?

sandyballs · 28/01/2006 16:47

No, she's red hot again, even though I'm giving calpol and nurofen at 2 hour intervals. Didn't realise you could do this until the doc said. Maybe that's why she's sleepy too - drugged up!
I keep checking her for spots and rashes and she's getting cross with me!

Yep. My son has had a flu bug and so have many others in his class. He had a raging temperature for several days and all the other horrible symptoms. He was like a zombie. Off school for a week. Very nasty

sandyballs dd1 (6) had this a couple of weeks ago]

it was horrid she had a temp of 104/5

I found disprol dissolved in ribena and those kool patches you can stick on their foreheads (or alternatively a cold wet flannel) worked the best. It lasted from Friday afternoon until Sunday night.

dd got this 10 days ago and has been like a zombie ever since. We dosed her up with Calpol and I did try and send her back to nursery on Monday only to have dh having to collect her an hour later. She falls asleep at 6:30, doesn't wake until at least 9, sometimes later and sleeps for at least 2 hours during the day. Took her to the docs and he just advised Calpol and plenty of rest.

DS has had this since last Sunday, although like Galaxy did think he was better Weds and mistakenly sent him to school - he went straight to bed when he got home. He is sleeping 12 hours at night (although also coughing) and had a 2.5 hour nap this afternoon and I had to wake him. His appetite has returned slightly today.

DH has also had it since Monday. So was home with DS Tues-Thurs while I was working. But this week has been a killer, doing all the chores at night, all the nursery runs, looking after the poorly pair, DD is teething and has heavy cold, so having to attend to both DS and DD in the night. DH disturbed my sleep so much last night that I ended up on the settee but then I have to trail upstairs to the kids....

Thanks for your messages, there's obviously something doing the rounds, it all sounds very similar to DD. She's just got up but still hot and lethargic. She'll probably be asleep again soon! I'll try and get some breakfast in her.

ds has just recovered from flu, lots about sadly.
He slept almost all day and night for a week so dont worry if she wants to sleep all the time, best thing to aid recovery

Help sandyballs - I know it was sometime ago that you started this, but could you please let me know how long the bug lasted with your DD. My DD went down with high temp on Saturday, and now almost a week round is still flat out on sofa, with raging temp. She is also complaining of stomach cramps. I am so worried, because this has been going on so long. Reassurance please!!!

Fimble, sounds like the exact same bug we have! Dd2 (24 months) has had it since last weekend, and is still a little heap of misery.

Ds (6) has had it since Wednesday, and has barely eaten since then. He also has temp and stomach cramps, but no real vomiting.

somebody told me it is influenza b and affects mainly children. A quarter of dd school was off last week and some schools throughout the country have been closed because of it.
Symptoms range from just a temp, to headaches, aches, and s and d.

What you describe is doing the rounds big time at dd's school. We haven't had it...yet.

I thought the symptoms sounded rather like flu too

Ds has had it for about 2 weeks now - temp. goes up in the afternoon, coughing, really tired, lethargic, headache, sore throat. Took him to the doctor yesterday just because it has been going on SO long, she said loads of kids are off because of it - lasts 3 weeks with the cough lingering even longer. I've got it as well, dd has had conjunctivitis, dh is going down with it.....roll on the summer.

We've had all this for the last week or so. Finally had to get help from docs yesterday. Largely same symptoms as LGJ describes.

And now i have the cough/sore throat bit of it.

No, LadySherlock I meant the childrens symptoms.

Mind you, you sound like you have a bit of everything going on there, so yes, you can play too! Hope you feel better soon - and that it's not flu of course.
