so tired and very restless sleep - Nytol?

I keep waking and I wake up in the morning feeling I've been driven over by something big. Nightmares that I can't remember seem to have taken over from the daytime/evening flashbacks.

I asked the pharmacist and he's given me a packet of Nytol. I've never ever taken anything stronger than pure herbs (usually valerian and hop)

How does it make you feel and does it help? I need to get through a few nights and then I'm sure I will cope with life again

Too much happening right now. Had a long chat with a concerned and understanding friend last night who knows what's going on for me and after a good cry on his shoulder I felt much lighter but still I had a really cr*p night.

Someone tell me this stuff works.

Hi willsurvivethis lots of people find nytol helps. It is "lighter" than prescription sleeping tabs such as zopiclone and temazepam.

Try a small dose at first and see if it agrees with you.

Hope it helps.

i have taken Nytol as I am and have been a chronic insomnia sufferer. They usually work. I buy the two a night variety and then only take one. Tbh - if I am really stressed (as I ahve been recently) nothing works. I got prescribed some Temazepan last week and even though I did sleep, I felt far worse than I had before so I onlyh took them for two nights. I now take Doselupin 25mg x2 per night and that really does relax my mind. Sweet dreams

Thanks for the replies - starting to panic now. Because of the abuse letting go/not having total control is terrifying.

Don't know what I think will happen but losing my alertness is scaring me to death

Will take one anyway and hope for the best.

Willsurvivethis how are you today?

Becky thanks.

I took one and I hated the feeling it gave me just as I feared - but I somehow slept like a log. Feel worse for it this morning though - but that may pass?

Will persevere for a week.

Did you sleep ok?

I did sleep well last night, thanks! Glad you did too. I think nytol can make you feel groggy but I'm sure it'll pass. Ah well, another day, eh?

Nytol has worked well for me. Now I just have to get myself off it... have been taking it most nights for quite a while now.
Be careful with valerian if you get nightmares - they made mine much worse.

Sorry, meant to say I don't get any side effects with Nytol that I am aware of. I've always been rubbish in the mornings so can't tell whether it makes me drowsy then or not!

arcadia I'm trying to get off Nytol too. I've been taking it on and off sice February. I can sleep well on half a tablet, which is an improvement. I did try going cold turkey for 2 weeks but got so little sleep that I went back on them.

I am not debating whether to cut down very gradually.

Soory I mean "now" not "not" (too little sleep emoticon!)

Hmm, so staying on them for a long time is not a good idea then? I'm planning to take them for a week to get on top of things again.

willsurvivethis I really don't think a week is a problem. I've been on them more like three months. I've mentioned taking them to the doctor and nurse at my surgery and various other people and they all seem very unconcerned. I believe they are relatively innocuous compared to other sleeping pills (prescription ones anyway).
MelonCauli I'm on the 'one a night', I'm going to buy some of the weaker ones and take one, then gradually decrease it.
The trouble with any sleeping aid is you don't know whether you're going to need it or not, really, as you don't know in advance what kind of night you're going to have!
