Gp gave me go ahead to conceive on citalopram, i am now 3 months pregnant and even though i am still on 20mg of citalopram i can feel hte anxiety overwhelming me, the fog reappearing, etc. I thought that once the pregnancy got going i would reduce the stuff not want to increase it. Last time round i loved being pregnant, now i feel too down to enjoy it. Wondered if anybody is or has been in my situation.

I went up twice during my pregnancy as the hormones really counteracted the drug. It helped me no end. There are 2 recent threads of you search through the archives about pg and Citalopram which are helpful. I had nothing but benefit from increasing the dose both during and after pg, and my dd is vv chilled, and it has done her no harm at all. good luck and keep posting - many of us on here have been in similar situations.

A friend of mine had ante-natal depression and began citalopram when about 3/12 pg. She had to keep having her dose increased until by the time her ds2 was born she was on the max dose - prob enough to knock out an elephant normally, but hormones do crazy stuff to us. her ds is fine, so good luck, and just try to relax and enjoy it.

Hello, what help do you want/need?

Have you spoken to your doctor? Seems wise to get their opinion.

I get antenatal depression and went onto cit during pregnancy.

Hormones can do truly crap things to depression.

xkatyx, I know we have spoken before on this subject. To reiterate:

I am on a high (60mg)dose of citalopram, as I was during conception, pregnancy and bf. DD is fine.

Your Dr is wrong to give you this advice, NICE who advise on current best practice for the NHS say "The risks of stopping tricyclic or SSRI antidepressant medication should be carefully assessed in relation to the mother's mental state and previous history. There is no indication to stop tricyclic or SSRI antidepressant medication as a matter of routine in early pregnancy."
I am sorry that there is so little information out there. Tell your GP that you are worried about stopping your tablets, and ask him/her for a referral to the psychiatrist, who is better qualified to help you make a decision.
Hope you are able to find the answers
