Mental health

SAD or depressed or just stressed?

Katymac · 04/12/2007 19:56

DH is very poorly (chronic not critical)
DD has been poorly on & off for about 6 weeks
I have had one thing after another (chest, ear, throat, outer ear infections, tooth abcesses, IBS kicking off)

I just had 2 root canals done (yesterday)

Problems at work

Very shouty & grumpy

So which am I?

I have been depressed (& on A/D's) a couple of times but not sure I feel the same way

GP diagnosed mild SAD several years ago - normally sorted by a week in the sun at Christmas (can't afford it this year)

Sorry to whinge as I know this is all very minor bu I am so pissed off & angry & weepy

Understandably stressed with a touch of SAD??

This is a foul time of year TBH the constant illnesses, crap weather and dark evenings just suck.

Thought about getting a light box?

Doesn't sound minor to me! Can you take time off work to get yourself and dd 100 per cent better? or would that cause more problems?

Great help for SAD is one of those light boxes. My MIL uses one and swears by it. Not sure what the technical name is, but should be cheaper than a week in the sun!

I'd almost certainly be stressed, seriously fed up and angry if I'd had the run you've had lately...

You say you're not sure if you're depressed... as you have had depression in the past you're obviously better placed to say whether things are going the same way this time. Are you sleeping and eating ok?

You sound really run down. Your immune system has taken a massive battering, hasn't it?

Is there any way you can take a few days off to get TOTAL rest? Have someone look after dd for you?

Time off is not really an option

I'm sleeping OK - I know sleeping too much is very definitely I sign I need medication (as I have ME too)

I am not oversleeping

I'm not eating too well atm - the IBS & food become a kinda vicious circle, so I do need to take action there

I work in a conservatory so the light box has previously not been needed - but maybe with our lack of summer I am feeling it a bit more this year

I am also getting a cold & DH crashed the car with DD & her bf last week - which doesn't help

Could you give yourself a treat to look forward to? A meal out or some kid-free time?

It's horrible wen you feel stuck on the merry-go-round of contant illnesses and demands and can't get off.

hi katymac - just wanted to send my best wishes - DS and I have also been under the weather recently and it doesn't help when you've already got a lot on your plate! Good idea re the St John's wort, suggest you also get some echinacea and some manuka honey for lots of lemon and honey drinks (tell someone they need to make them for you!)

Root canal treatment is RUBBISH and VERY STRESSFUL so am not surprised that you're shouty and grumpy. Any chance you could go for one sunbed session (yes, I know, sunbeds generally bad, but speaking from experience, a one off half hour experience of UV light soaking your bones might be a winner)

Thanks - I appreciate your support (& everyone elses)

& get to re-do the root canals next Monday so I am well happy about that

Work is crap

Gosh I need that st johns wort
