I've had this and can say that it turned my life around for the better I was also pg at the time, with my ds and I was also bf my dd so didn't want meds either. The therapy changes the way you think and process your thoughts. I was also advised to by a book called Overcoming Low Self Esteem by Melanie Fennel (I've posted about the book before but can't find the thread)

CBT is hard work to start with but it did wonders for me, I hope it does for you too. Well done for taking this step and good luck ((((hugs))))

I also has CBT and I found it helped more than taking anti-depressants, like Emskilou said its about changing the way you think about things and is something you can practice long term to help whenever you have low thoughts. You do have to put the work in but I think it is worth it. There is an online CBT thing here: Mood Gym - you have to register to do it but its free and it might give you more idea of what to expect.

CBT is one form of counselling/therapy that is encouraged by GPs, becasue it can have very quick results, but from what I have read the results are not necessarily long lasting.
It is a way to look at why repeated behaviours occur and you will get "homework" .
Personally I prefer humanistic counselling which is about exploring your feelings and being really listened to, it is kind of like going on a journey but with your counsellor by your side.

For more info in CBT check out www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/27000424/

Different counselling styles suit different people. But I am sure it will really really help and a good alternative/supplement to anti-depressants.

A Professional counsellor should explain the process/contrac tyou are entering into - like confidentiality and complaints procedures.

Hope that helps?

CBT can work, if you are open minded to revisit some of your basic understanding of how you may deal with situations/emotions/etc. When it works, it works amazingly. But only if you are ready to make changes to your life.
Good luck. I think if you are open minded enough to seek others opinions on it, you are probably where you need to be to give it a try.
IMO
