My GP is pushing hard for me to take AD's (I suffrered depression 12 years ago and on ADs for 1 year).........I have chronic health problems and take a no of pills for pain and to stay mobile (atrhritis). I know chronic pain and depression linked but although feel depressed when have a bad 'flare' (pain and immobility increases), am fine when everything under control. I know what clinical depression is and I do not have it..........am very tired of being labelled as depressive when ill so long ago. worked so hard to get better and have a life and feel sick of being bullied by GP. Almost started them last week but dh said don't.
Have had some real life trauma over last 2 years and have coped with it all. Do Dr';s ever stop thinking you have metal illness when you suffered it once?
I know Ad's are great when you need them but as far as I know no happy pill exists and I don't want to be fobbed off with medication when I need help managing my chronic health problem.
Any advice?

I know I'd rather not. Can your GP refer you for some counselling? Or is there a practice nurse you could talk to?

thanks iklboo - counselling limited to 6 sessions at our surgery and I don't think that will help me really. I get lonely and find going out more helpful than 'talking' therapy. have mixed feelings about counselling especially when it is so limited in no of sessions.
