Hi, I'm in a state. Again! Been recovering from severe depression this last six months. Doing well. Then got mild head cold and my mood has plummeted. Terrifying. Can anyone hold my hand? I'm feeling so pathetic.

Hang in there! you've overcome it once and you will again. Is there anyone at home with you? Smile

Poor you, I can sympathise as I have had a hard time the last few years with depression. Horrible!!

is there anything little that you love to do that might make you feel a bit better? E.g. buy yourself something nice, move your room around, clean out your house? Just little steps...just start with something little then move on to something else. Whatever you love doing the most - buy yourself some flowers or book a weekend away or book something to look forward to. Although you probably don't feel like doing it whatever that smallest thing is it's worth it.

Also check out this book - "Get the life you love now" by Phil Parker (available on Amazon). Helps to explain the brain science behind depression etc and gives you quick NLP type techniques to use on yourself to change your mindset to a positive one. Helped me immensely and I use it all the time.

xx

Thanks for the replies. Yes I'm being well looked after. I'm attempting mindfulness based therapy. Hit or miss....

Could you go for a walk or a run? i find when I'm depressed doing exercise helps, its supposed to release 'endorphins' and relieve depression.

are you on any medication? have you eaten today?

Report
Smartleatherbag · 11/04/2015 19:12

Yes and yes, lots of meds, not much to eat but if dh brings it, I'll eat it.

Well thats good, at least you're eating. When i'm depressed i can't eat, that then becomes another medical worry.

are your meds not working then? sorry I've never used meds for it so not sure what the protocol is.

How long have you been like this? its a horrible place to be, but you can come out of it, you're strong (although it doesn't feel like it now) but you are, today will be over soon. what do you like to do most or enjoy?

Smartleatherbag · 12/04/2015 20:28

I don't enjoy anything just now. I've decided to stop fighting and let myself have a few days rest and looking after myself as much as possible. Dh is picking up the slack for which I'm v grateful.
Thanks for your input xx

I don't know if you have been taking any cold meds etc, but I find that these sometimes adversely affect my mood. Knowing that there may be a cause for the dip usually helps me be more gentle with myself. Hang on Smart, you are not alone.
