Last year DSis had what I guess would be termed as a "nervous breakdown". Manifested as complete exhaustion, just wanted to sleep or cry, culminating in suicidal thoughts, yet she was not aware of feeling "depressed". She had a good job, great friends, newly married, and she felt life was good. She had 2 months in a psychiatric hospital, following which she had another 2 months of sick leave before returning to work. The Dr's were a bit vague about a diagnosis. She has the odd day when she feels tearful, but on the whole, feels good. She is on venlafaxine. She still finds her diagnosis of depression hard to comprehend, as she is adamant she didn't feel depressed, just overwhelmingly tired. Is it possible to have a breakdown without feeling obviously depressed. It was suggested that maybe she had chronic fatigue syndrome, she certainly fitted the picture, but she is still a bit in the dark about things.

I feel bad and have suicidal thoughts without being depressed. Maybe she had burnout.
