Spending addiction

A close family member has a spending addiction. I don't mean they like shopping, I mean they have to spend money to feel better and it really doesn't matter what on. It's beginning to impact more and more on other people and they're {the person} finally beginning to see what it is doing to everyone.

Has anyone any suggestions as which way to point them. Preferably something that doesn't cost as obviously money is something they now don't have.
Any suggestions on anything I can do to help too?

TIA

The family member really does need to recognise that there is a problem and it just won't go away. Acceptance of this is obviously the first step and awareness that they are supported in wanting to change the behaviour is hugely important. They need to know they are valuable and loved in their own right. Any addiction can be discussed with a GP and possibly counselling would be appropriate. Lots of reassurance that they will get over it. Some people are simply clueless when it comes to money, especially if they do not earn it themselves ifyswim and are not responsible for budgeting. How do they access the money?
