what have you been told re valium? how often to take? It doesn't sound great to take it every few hours.

Is anything making this weekend difficult for you or do you 'just' feel bad?

Hi weesudders - so sorry you're having a hard time again - me too had bad day today. I would be cautious about the valium too. I am on 6mgs per day (3 x 2mg doses) and I don't think it does much good but my CPN wants me to stay on it until I have more recovery "under my belt". The trouble is with valium it is a drug which can cause dependence and if you up the does, it can cause greater dependency.

I am worried about taking it because there was a time (some years ago now) when GPs were just prescribing these major tranquillisers to all and sundry and when the patients complained they were still anxious, the GPs just "upped" the dose and it ended up with hundreds of woman (usually mothers of small children) becoming like zombies and maybe losing the anxiety, but losing other feelings too. The dangers of this over prescribing was finally brought into the open and patients started trying to sue GPs for allowing them to live like zombies for decades and unable to get off these drugs.

Since then I think GPs are more circumspect about prescribing them long term. On the leaflet in the box it says they should not be taken for more that 4 weeks. I have been on them since April this year and am worried about it, and intend to withdraw (very gradually) as soon as my CPN thinks it is the right time. The conslt psychiatrist who still visits me every 3 months always waves away my concerns saying "oh it's a very small dose" but I remember only too well the way it ruined so many women's lives, so do take care.
