As the title says, I'm looking to buy a Fitbit but an confused about which one and what the differences are! I'm a very lazy novice who needs to get fit! Can anyone recommend a particular one? Pros cons? They seem to differ massively in price!

The more expensive just does more stuff. Basic fitbit tells you steps etc but the more expensive tell you heart rate and you can connect your mobile so the fitbit tells you who's calling plus they monitor your sleep pattern. It depends what you want really. I read a newer version is coming out too

I found the fit bit website really helpful as you can compare the different models and see what different things they all do.
I ended up with the Alta and it's perfect for me. Not too chunky on the wrist, monitors everything I need and shows texts/phone calls. Since having my Fitbit I definitely more far more than before and I get very competitive with myself so I don't slack off 😂

I bought a Surge yesterday, love it already although it is a little chunky to sleep in.

I have a One and I love it in some ways but I keep losing it! I wear it on my bra and it keeps coming off.
I am wondering about getting one that goes on my wrist.

Only two problems - 1. a lot of the walking I do is pushing the buggy - so I assume that wouldn't register and 2. I also do a fair bit of knitting and I gather they register that as exercise Hmm.

Would I be better off asking Father Christmas for a heart rate one?

A wrist tracker will record your steps, not sure about the knitting.

I bought a xaimio or something similar. It's a Japanese thing but seems to do an ok job for just steps, and it was only £20.

Will it record my steps even if my arm is still e.g. when pushing the buggy?

I think so, mine records every step even if I'm carrying something and I'm not swinging my arms.

Mine didn't seem to record steps when I pushed a buggy recently. It was on 9.9k steps and I walked for about half an hour (so way more than 100 steps surely?) Before it had its 10k party Confused
Having said that I do love mine.

I was the same op. Didn't know which one to get. In the end I went for the alta as the more expensive ones did things I don't need. And the cheaper one doesn't record sleep which is something I was interested to measure

I have a Garmin vivoactive. It's on sale in Argos at the moment for £129.99 and I'm absolutely in love with it.
I looked into all my options extensively before purchasing and the main thing that swayed me away from the Fitbit is that none of them are waterproof. They are all water-resistant, but not proof. I'd really like to take up swimming, plus I have had a Nike's 'water-resistant' sports watch die on me in the past for running in heavy rain.
It does pretty much everything that the fitbit does, is very slim and light weight (great for me because i have small wrists). Tracks your sleep, steps, has different functions for all different sports, has alarm, notifications from your phone, has gps, move notifications. Loads really! The only thing mine doesn't have is a heart rate monitor, but the more expensive vivoactive HR has one so if that's really important to you then you could get that instead. Also, you can buy a heart rate strap to connect to it if you need to.
Also, I'm a childminder and do lots of buggy pushing and walking the dog with a lead in my hand and it still counts my steps. I don't know how it does it, but even if i swing my arm like I'm walking (with the GPS turned off) it still knows if I am or not... it also knew exactly when I was walking up and down hill the other day... bloody brilliant if you ask me Grin

That does sound good Elbe but I'm not sure I want a watch too Confused.
Maybe I really want a Fitbit with a HRM...

If you like the features mentioned by Elbe but like the hr function without the chest strap then you could consider the garmin vivosmart HR. It doesnt have gps, but he vivosmart hr+ does. I have the vivosmart HR for the waterproof feature, the move alert and general tracking of my activities. It can be set up for notifications etc., but I don't have that feature activated.

I was doing some research last night and came to exactly that conclusion. Time to have a word with Father Christmas I think.

I have a fitbit alta and I really love it...a lot more than I thought I would. It really motivates me in lots of ways...for example I might have reached my 10k steps goal but will have to go a bit more to get 5miles under my belt. The competing with friends is also good. It records my steps even when pushing the buggy and it's accurate as I've compared it to runs I've tracked on endomondo and the mileage matches up.
