How can I weight train at home?

MrsWhirling · 20/05/2015 21:48

I simply can't go to the gym.

Have lost 1 stone by calorie counting and cardio but it's not working any more. I feel that my body needs some weight training.

What smallish equipment can I buy for home?

You could buy a couple of sets of dumbells. But you can do an awful lot just with bodyweight, especially if you are just starting off.

If you want to splash out then a TRX is an amazing piece of kit that you can work your whole body using body weight resistance and anyone can use it, no matter how strong - you adjust the difficulty accordingly using different angles/positioning. and how you can adjust for your level of strength.

There are cheaper versions than the original TRX (which is approx £150 with door anchor - you will need that) available - check out reviews for these on Amazon and make up your own mind Smile

Totally agree re kettlebells. I can recommend Paul Katami, I started with his beginner's DVD and have now progressed to drills/kombos. I got a set of 3 small kettlebells from Amazon and started at the beginning of January. I'm far more toned now than I was when I used to go to the gym regularly (many moons ago!)

There are various ways by which you can perform your exercise at home, if you need any help you can have your gym partner with you. You can do crunches, sit ups, jumping, planks to tone your stomach. To know more you can visit here.

Look up 'You Are Your Own Gym'. It a book (on Kindle too) and an app and has loads of great bodyweight exercises and progressions so you can get stronger :)

as well as TRX (or equivalent) I would think about press up handles, weights would be great but not always practical, might be worth looking into resistance bands?
Some sort of weighted backpack might be useful, you could rig that up yourself pretty easily.
Search you tube for bodyweight resistance exercises,
