Shoes for strength training ?

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask what shoes do you use for strength training? I strength train 2-3 times a week and do the cross trainer the rest of the week....

I am badly in need of new shoes... So I went into Runners Need thinking that they will get me fitted into the right shoes (I have a dodgy knee).... At least that is what they did the last time I went there..
However, this time when I told them I need something for strength training, they didn't even ask me to run on the threadmill to check my alignment... They just recommended Nike Free and said they were for cross training.... Also, something about how I need flexibility and not stability ....
I am confused now.... I don't mind spending a bit for the right shoes, but I don't want to buy something that may suit my knees....

Would appreciate if you can let recommend shoes for strength training...

TIA :)

I wear bionic nikes which are completely flat and not suitable for wearing anywhere accept the gym floor. By wearing these I can feel the floor deadlifts and squats you load through heels by wearing these shoes I can feel it straight away if I roll onto my toes when I explode upwards.

I wear VFFs in the gym, or sometimes just regular trainers.

I have a few pairs Mumto all bought online from various shops, presume there are shops where you can go and try them on but I've never actually looked!

Another vote for Bionic Nikes.

Will have a look at bionics this week...

suzanne I was reading someplace that measurements for vffs are slightly different to those of normal shoes... Hence was wondering where I could go to measure up before buying... Also, does it take some time to get used to them ?

Has anyone used any converse trainers for weight training.... They also seem to be recommended by various sites...

Thanks again :)

I take a 4 in normal shoes and a 4 in VFFs, but the sizing varies a bit between different styles, there are instructions for measuring your feet on the official website.
But ultimately there's some pot luck involved and you may have to return them and re order a different size

As for getting used to them should be fine if you are used to flat shoes, although running in them is quite different (I find ) to running in regular running shoes.
It did take my toes a while to get used to fitting into the toes of the shoesWink
