Running buggy - help needed please

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post,
My searching proved futile apart from threads from 2011.

I had my DC3 4 months ago and I started running, doing the c25k podcast about 6 weeks ago. I'm really enjoying it, but sometimes struggle to get babysitters for the baby. I've got a Phil and Teds sport, which isn't suitable for running and needs replacing, got it second hand and not a fan. I'm looking for a good running buggy as I'm training for a 10 mile race. I'd appreciate any advice please. I'll wait until DD is 6 months old to use it.

I've found a new Bob Ironman for £275, which seems a really good price, but I'm not sure which makes to look at, as there's too much conflicting advice out there. I run on a mixture of roads and muddy paths, currently for 40ish minutes, 3 times a week. I don't mind having an older model and buying second hand either, as maternity pay isn't brilliant.

Many thanks for any advice.

Thank you. They're quite expensive but definitely an option. I'm also looking at Out and About Nipper Sport, but a bit worried about fixed wheel, whether it would be useable when not running.

I ran with a Nipper 360. DD was about 6-15 months when I did. Neither of us had any problems. If there is now a Sport version I imagine it'll be well thought out. The 360 has a swivel front wheel though.

I think the swivel wheel might be better, if the buggy is ok to run with. Not sure how to turn fixed wheel when in normal use. Did the 360 have a lockable swivel wheel?

There are some more recent threads about running strollers on the push chair section.

Having said that just a few things.

BOBs are fantastic. I had one - an SUS D'Lux. I can't say enough good things bout it. It could go anywhere - beach, gravel, dirt/mud no problems. Easy to fold and quick release wheels.

If you're running, you want big wheels. They give less rolling resistance. So at a minimum I'd say 16" rear. The Ironman does 16" front too as did my SUS.

The fixed front wheel means the stroller will track in a straight line. To turn it, you just sort of either shift the handlebar a bit or actually lift up the front wheel to swivel it where you want it to go. Not a big deal. Really.

If you get a 16" or larger wheel set it will not be your daily stroller. Running strollers aren't wider but they are longer than the average stroller and are not easy to negotiate around shops. I would take mine in after a run to pick up a paper or milk, but that was it - and I knew the shop wouldn't be crowded.

The compromise is 16" rear and 12"'front wheel. This is the BOB Revolution. You can lock the front wheel for running and unlock it for out and about. It is a very common stroller in the US. The Babyjogger equivalent is the Summit.

BOBs have very good accessories - the rain cover was great as was the parent console.

BOBs have good resale value too.

You can sometimes find a used baby jogger with 21" wheels.

I used a Babyjogger Citimini as my "everyday" stroller.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for all that information helpful that's fantastic. I'm off to do more research. I think that the Bob revolution sounds like it might be a good option here. Thanks again. I'm sorry I hadn't found the other threads.

I run with an Out n About Nipper 360. So does my super-serious-about-running friend. You can either keep the wheel rotating or fix it to run. Bought mine 2nd hand for about £70.

You may have already come across this but it gives a good explanation of what to look for.

The link to their top reviewed strollers is a couple of years old but it might be worth looking at.

It is an American site so you may not find the stroller models but the buying info is still good.

I preferred a fixed wheel for my power walks. Used a fixed wheel mountain buggy, but no idea if that's a good one for running.

I second the out n about, the normal one though they do ones with bigger wheels for running

Thank you! I've done more research and found an American buggy called Baby Trend Expedition, which is on eBay for about £140 with shipping included. It's between that and the out and about. All the help we as much appreciated, thank you.
