Zombies run! Anyone done it who can help a novice?

I downloaded ZR the other day and went for my first run chased my zombies today. It was lots of fun but I don't really understand how it works. I've done (most) of a mission (had to stop slightly before the end), but what's with the radio transmissions? Am I meant to run while they are on, or just listen to them. And do I need to listen to the transmission before then next mission?
