Head torch recommendations

My boot camp instructor has suggested I buy a head torch for trail running in the dark evenings.
Can anyone suggest a decent one? I don't really know what to look for and there are loads on Amazon.
I don't want to spend loads of money but it needs to be reliable. Thanks

petzl

are by far the best head torch going I would only buy petzi, We as a family climb, hill walk, sail, surf, kayak, and all use them, very reliable, great service, well worth the money, personally I wouldn't risk a cheap head torch if it is for any night time activity.

I use a silva one which is fine and much cheaper.

I have an alpkit one that I love. Has a rear red light too and steady glow and flashing modes. I love running in the dark!

Another vote for petzl here. Both me and DH have had ours for years and they still work fine. They have LED's so batteries last for years.

I am a long term head torch user, have been climbing mountains, running and cycling in the dark for decades.

I used Petzls for years, but bought a Alpkit one a couple of years ago because it is a lot cheaper and I had lost my head torch. It looks great, functioned great for about a year then packed up. I replaced it with a Silva an it's going strong a year later still. It was an ex display one so cheap oath, but I will probably stick to Petzls in future if I am paying full price.

Another vote for petzl, mine is about 3 years old and I go out regularly running or dog walking at night, not fallen down a hole yet. :)

Petzl vote here too- great for running in dark lanes in the winter, and use it when my bike light has gone bust. Careful of blinding any oncoming cars though Grin
