Any tips/magic bullets for improving flexibility generally and getting the splits in particular?

I don't know about magic bullets, am stiffer than I used to be but can still just about ease my way in and tell you that you need strength/flexibility in your hip flexors, hamstring and sort of lumbar area - yoga?

Yes yoga, or some sort of stretching routine which is practise daily

and don't push too much with stretching, afaik that can lead to small tears in muscles which ultimately reduce flexibility.

Try you tube for ideas

Ooh thanks for your messages. Haven't found yoga that helpful, maybe I should give it another go?

you need to do stretches that will um help make your hip flexors and hamstrings strong and stretchy really - this must be easy to google? and lower back, unless that is just my age Confused

did you do gym or dance or anything as a child?

I am loving having some replies! I did a bit of gym as a child, lots of other sports. I started adult gym twice a week 2.5 years ago and have noticed that it is definitely a combination of strength and flexibility, I am also training for a half marathon so that is obviously impacting the flexibility. Just wondered if anyone had something that worked for them?

I dont think strength especially comes into it, the only thing that works is regular stretching, there are no shortcuts,

try these

pretty much anyone can improve their flexibility but some people will have a greater capacity than others for flexibility.
Full splits may not be achievable for everyone
