Help needed (follow up post) re payment and collection only

Recently posted about someone abroad wanting to potentially buy from me if i relisted an item that's advertised as Collection Only (it's bulky and antique)
So, on the basis of this, I relisted as am totally desperate for the money (re listed as original winner messed me around and couldnt complete sale)
I had told him (the potential buyer) many times in private messages that I would only accept cash; he would need to send cash with a courier if can't come in person himself
Lo and behold... he wins yesterday, and pays by Paypal today. I clearly put in my listing as well... no Paypal! (I know from advice on here that i wouldn't be safe with Paypal, if he claimed item wasnt collected, then Paypal would refund him)

I got this message from him

''Hi

Well 2nd time lucky!

I have just paid for the item. I now need to arrange collection which as you will appreciate will take a little time as I am in Tanzania:)

There are two options.... I can arrange collection (which of course will be quite expensive for me) but I can also collect when I am over in the UK next month.... If you agree to store for me until then, I will gladly bring you something from our Coffee Plantation as a thank you.....:)

Please let me know as I really do not want to impose on your hospitality...

Best regards''

(he is a brit guy in africa, visiting in may and wants it for his brother living in england.or so he says)

I have now refunded the Paypal money back to him. I have messaged saying I cant wait till he's here in May but he can still send a courier. (not my fault it's expensive for him!)
Should I suggest a bank transfer? Would that be safe? I've never done one/ what info would i need to give ie the 16 numbers or my actual bank account number? And what about the 3 numbers on the back? am worried as have had identity stolen twice in past.. one was an eBay seller too!
And now someone else has messaged me saying that they will give me £120 for it (this guy in africa won it for £94) and could they arrange for a courier and do a bank transfer... I said I'll get back to them if this guy messes me.
Of course i'd like the £120! if i dont hear from guy in Tanzania can i do this?> or does HE have to close the sale? and he will say he won fair and square.. except he didnt really, as i clearly said no Paypal (and certainly can't wait till next month for money)
Can anyone advise me, or should I ring eBay for advice
I thought collection only would make this simpler.. not so at all and i'll still have to wrap it all up if a courier comes

wow popular item Grin

i am no ebay expert. usually i use gumtree and pay via bank transfer or accept that as a method of payment. within ebay though i think even bank transfer might open you up to allegations the item was not received if it is not posted

good luck

it's not going to be posted, either person would arrange a courier

you need to refund his paypal - do not let him arrange his own courier.

are you saying the same person won it twice? You should have blocked them and changed your settings to prevent buyers from abroad. Also you did cancel the first transaction and get your fees refunded didn't you?

Bank transfer is completely safe yes.

and you are saying you have sold it twice but not cancelled either transaction - so you will have an ebay bill of 10% fvf to pay for each listing.

And never, ever give out the 3 numbers on the back of your card or the number from the front - the payer only needs sort code and account number.

i have refunded his paypal and got this mesage back ( i should point out i told him some of my circumstances , maybe not a good idea but am at end of tether that i need cash and soon and was just being honest to try and drive it home to him.. ) Never did i waste my time.. i will cut and paste part of my listing here in a sec. the fact he wanted me to wait till May (ie 'I offered to collect if needs be' is ludicrous)

Hi

Whereas I sympathise I am extremely disappointed that you have wasted my time. payment via PayPal has been made and now refunded and although I offered to collect if needs be.

Very disappointing and I suggest that terrible as your circumstances are, you look for alternative ways to sell items that do not upset others.

No he did not win it twice
First winner - with that person (who could not take it to australia due to wood restrictions), we both cancelled sale, and eBay refunded fees back to me of approx £17 (as it had sold for £170)
thanks Lavender re bank info
Is account number the shorter number? ie not 16 digits

Here is part of my listing - (i put the money bit in bold large letters too)

''99p start!!!!

Auction listing only; no Buy It Nows

Collection only. Cash only please, on collection
If you pay by Paypal I will have to cancel sale and send the payment back to you…. please pay with cash only, in british pounds, on collection

I can offer two different locations (counties) - Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire is easiest however the Soulbury area of Buckinghamshire can be arranged but Hemel offers more frequent possible pickup dates.

Item in photo is exact item that you will receive, and not a stock photo.

Sorry, no returns or exchange; everything as stated.''

such a headache and i thought cash on collection would take out the headache! i thought people would only bid if they could collect in person and pay cash. but no... they all want to send couriers.. and no one wants to pay in cash. can't win

yes of course you need to cancel this sale - you have to send a cancellation request and they have to accept it

and writing no returns means nothing tbh.

LavenderGreen14 · 09/04/2014 17:40

and the sort code and account number are on your cheque book or bank statement - not the 16 digit number from the front of the card.

And you saying offer to other bidder - that is an off ebay sale isn't it? They have offered you more money after the auction has ended.

alltoomuchrightnow · 09/04/2014 19:11

the account number is on my debit card…
Yes other person said they'd pay me more.. so i guess i'd have to re list as a buy it now for them if i was doing it all legit?( i would not sell outside of eBay)

if they also mess me about i guess i should just re list for a third time.. and block the guy in africa??

Ask him to transfer the money into your bank account. All he needs is your account number, sort code & your name. Then store it until he comes over in May so there's no need to courier it. All parties will be happy as you've got your money and he will get it when he collects it next month.

Report
LavenderGreen14 · 09/04/2014 19:24

your account number is 8 digits long.

You need to send a cancellation request - have you done that yet and explained to that buyer that they need to accept it before you can sell elsewhere.

ok Red I will suggest it to him. That's safer than paypal isn't it.. as it can't get refunded back to him

Yep , saw the first one.

Very very cool. Can't imagine you'd have any trouble selling it to a genuine buyer. Make sure to stress that you're only a mile or whatever from junction 8.
