Thanks MissA! I think thoughts of September spur us on to fresh starts as much as January so maybe that's why the thread is super-busy?

Today's spends: £26.66 postage (4x books of second class for thank you cards and an envelope and postage to send a card to my mum); £3 charity donation; £3.49 on a huge tub of yoghurt and some cream cheese.

Frugal fail: the cream cheese is a bid to save my tomato soup which is lovely but is basically passata Confused I'm really good at making soup so why can't I make tomato soup!?!?! Any tips gratefully received!

Frugal win: starting to do an inventory of gifts already bought for xmas - doing pretty well so far!; am trying to turn lights on less (I'm a sucker for artificial light Blush; have made a 'pate' from yoghurt, cream cheese and that random tin of sardines at the back of the cupboard which will be perfect for my lunch tomorrow.

collie a winter store cupboard is a great idea. I need to check out the winter thread too. Something I've promised myself this winter is brushed cotton sheets for our bed. Got some for DD last year and they're so snuggly!

SpottyTeacakes · 12/08/2015 16:41

Thanks missa.

Nsd.

Girlie you shouldn't have to pay an excess if you claim through her insurance?!

candybar · 12/08/2015 16:54

I haven't posted here for a while, but need to get on top of spendingHmm

My dd1 is out for the day & won't be back until tomorrow dd2(7) is so upset by this as although they argue they really are best friends and miss each other.
So I promised dd2 I'd get her some paints today, we went to home bargains this morning and I spent £14, wasn't expecting to spend so much. Took her to McDonald's afterwards and spent £2.59 on a happy meal.

It's dd1 10th birthday soon and she's having some friends over for a couple of hours, we invited 8 but only 5 have replied. I'm hoping the weather will be good and they can go out in the garden, I'm also thinking of having a BBQ - just sausages and burgers ect. And I've got a chocolate fountain . Anyone have ideas as to how I can entertain them them whilst they are here? I don't want to spend a fortune.

Funds are getting low and there are still two weeks until payday. I really don't want to end up overdrawn.

SpottyTeacakes · 12/08/2015 17:15

Eugh. I've booked dh and I two nights away for his thirtieth but I think I should cancel it as the money could be better spent Sad

Ohhelp they are 9/10/11 - I hadn't thought about crafty stuff, I'll have a look in hobby craft then see if I can get the things cheaper on Amazon.

Pointlessfan · 12/08/2015 17:38

Thanks MissA, just marking place.

ItsAll · 12/08/2015 17:58

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/08/2015 18:00

spotty What does he need to fit the dw?.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 12/08/2015 18:08

I can vouch for the Jack Munroe burgers, they are really delicious. We make them a lot, they also freeze well if you oven bake them from frozen.

Spent £20 on curtain tie backs in Wilko plus £14 on hooks. we are so not moving again unless it is into our own home!

574ejones · 12/08/2015 18:26

Hello. Thanks for the new thread. Third NSD in a row! Had a bit of a frugal win in that my car trouble was sorted free of charge by the garage under the warranty. Still need to get new tyres soon though.

Anyone got any recommendations for photo books that aren't too pricey? Each year I get one made after my holiday but Photobox seem really expensive lately.

ItsAll · 12/08/2015 18:27

Great, thanks for the tip Peonies.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/08/2015 18:39

Thanks for the new thread MissA

Grin

My takeaway secret book arrived, it looks good so I will try a few recipes and see if it's worth ordering the second book too.

Thanks for the jack Monroe link, I'll make these over the next week!

Bakery was shut after dermatologist appointment so son didn't get a cake, but we did all eat slow cooker bolognaise so really cheap food day.

Laska42 · 12/08/2015 19:10

Thanks Miss A

I had to transfer some money from savings account to pay for Monday's large Sainsbos bill, but am expecting a chq in the post from DH for £600, this week.. so thats good (it will go straight back into savings as ive paid all the bills this month).

The other day you were talking about your DPs and DHs working away and not being their during the week.. We've done this for 19 years!!

However he is saying he's now retiring this year - early, he's 3 years younger than I - (when exactly I dont know, hes been saying it all year! but I reckon it wont be before December now .. I think he is waiting for his year bonus , and that makes sense )

So I am going to have to get used to him being here! - its ok.. I still adore him (mostly, and he says me, mostly Grin) so we will be fine!

But I am now seriously looking at garden chalets as a hobby room (for me, not him!! WinkGrin luckily we have a huge garden , I can tuck one up the end and he will never find me .. oh yes, but of course ill still be at work all week for a couple of years yet Sad
