DD with diarrhoea...sorry! - school?

My DD, 5, has been under the weather with a cold but fine to go to school. This evening she had stomach ache after dinner and then one bout of diarrhoea. She seems fine at the mo, a little tired.

Do u need to follow 48hr rule to keep off school or wait and see how she is throughout night and in morning. What would you do?!

I'd keep her off.

No raised temp, she looks a little flushed and says she feels hot but seems okay in herself really.

she needs the time off school how embarrassing for her if she has an accident at school!

I would keep her off as well until I was sure the diarrhea had stopped. It's pretty debilitating as well so a good sleep tomorrow and a quiet day would do her the world of good.

I would normally keep her off. It may have been one bout?

We have workmen here and my DD has sensory issues (being assessed for high functioning, mild ASD) so wouldn't cope well with the noise of power tools .

I was thinking poss go to my Mums but she has a medical condition where it would be pretty awful for her to pick up a stomach bug...

Most schools work places nurseries say 48 hours clear, it would be awful for others to pick the bug up to

If you're worried she might be contagious, why on earth would you even consider sending her to school? You'll have to find somewhere else to take her, or call the workmen and say they can't come tomorrow due to illness.

She needs to stay home, even if she seems ok she can still carry it others, sorry I know that will be hard but the 48hr rule is in place for a reason.

She needs to stay off.
Schools are not childcare and it's really not fair for the staff to be dealing with ill children.
One ill child goes to school and spreads it and it's really hard to shake the bug. Then parents complain beciase the teacher is off and the head complains because staff are off.

I'm v against the grain. DD can get it when she has a cold and can often have a single dose and be absolutely fine again. Tmi but I get it when I am anxious and it's not illness related, as soon as whatever I was worried about passes I'm fine again. If you think she's unwell definitely keep her off but you know her best and if she's well and it was a one off I wouldn't be too worried about sending her in. It's one of those ones to be really honest with yourself about though as to whether you think she's sick.

Oh no, I totally agree and I always stick to it. I'm not being ott over one single bout am I though?

I mean it only happened once, could be start of something though...

We are having kitchen refitted and it's chaos - no oven, hob or sink.

Thinking of where we could go for the day.

Please stick to the 48hr rule, this is exactly why schools gets bugs spreading like wildfire. You can't actually tell if it's a bug or not and if you won't inflict it on your mum why should the other children and staff take the risk?!?

CherrySkull · 28/11/2016 20:11

i don't think one stomach ache and 1 bout of diarrhea qualifies for keeping off school, could be stress or something she'd eaten.

If she's fine the rest of the night then send her in.

I know, you're right. I just meant that with my Mum as she is quite ill and it would be pretty awful for her to catch it.

I don't want children/teachers to catch it. H thinks she should go though and I believe he thinks I'm being over dramatic.

I am a teacher and did an afternoon of supply in Reception a few weeks ago.

FOUR incidents of pooey pants! In half a day. Presumably because a parent decided it was ok to send their child to school with a dodgy tum.

Please keep your dc off school!

Why does it mean she has a bug though? Could easily be a one off?

There is a virus going round the schools here - cold and fluey symptoms and upset stomach. Could be something similar if she has cold symptoms too.

I would keep her off.

Is it possible to cancel workmen tomorrow? Or could she be far away enough in the house with iPad and ear phones for the noise not to upset her?

anotherdayanothersquabble · 28/11/2016 20:25

Everything starts with one bout....

Plus there is no guarantee that if it is contagious the next person to catch it will get off so lightly.

Is the rule 48 hours in your school or 24? In either case, no school tomorrow.

Exactly zzzzzz

This is why this bug is spreading like wildfire. If you or DC are sick or have diarrhoea. Follow the rules. It's 48 hours since last episode.

Keep her off

Blossom4538 · 28/11/2016 20:39

Oh no, it's not okay for other children/teachers to get it. I follow 48 hour rule. Obviously I'm concerned for my unwell Mum..she's my Mum.

I tend to be a bit of a hypochondriac/worrier and I can tell my H and family think I'm over reacting though.
