Childbirth

Labour can't be far away. Would go for a walk or do some exercises to get things moving along, but have broken ankle. Any ideas of what else I could do?

Apart from the whole pineapple/curry/shagging suggestions of course.

I would be out for a long walk if I could, but I can't walk very far as I am still in an orthopedic boot for my broken ankle.

Anybody know of any exercises or anything I could do?

I had been having regular cramps/braxton hicks for ages yesterday, I have lost my mucus plug and had a couple of whooshes of pink show. It can't be far away now surely?

Any top tips?

Oh Maw how exciting!

Do you have a ball you could bounce on?

Nipple twiddles shouldn't bother your ankle

I do have a ball, but can't balance on it with boot on. Don't want to be back at ortho with the other ankle broken!!

DS still breastfeeds and his efforts have produced no results so far...

How are you doing anyway? Still studying or have you finished?

Still studying in Edinburgh this year postgrad course. Applying for PhD funding for next. But all good.

What about a bath? Won't help get anything going but might help you relax which may in turn help....

And supposed to be essay writing so I am off.

Look forward to some good news from you soon

Would love to have a bath!! But our hot water tank holds such a piddly amount that a bath is not a pleasant experience. Bah. And ds would bloody well want to get in with me which is hardly relaxing!!!

I think I will organise a babysitter and a trip to the pics with dh tonight. That's bound to bring it on!!!

Have just managed to wiggle my bum in the air whilst kneeling on the bed with my ankle hanging over the edge. No idea if it will do any good or not.............

hello, I have a v good idea (er possibly)

have you got a clean bucket

if you put the bucket right way up and sit on it then your pelvic area is kind of pushed down inside

then you kind of wiggle round and round on the bucket to get the baby's head grinding down on the cervix, I think that's the theory

you can do this while watching tv and you don't even notice you're doing it, however a broken ankle is very difficult isn't it

however will you manage.. i hope things go well for you x

ds1 breastfeeding didn't ever do much but nipple twiddling did, try it anyway.

if you can stand try swaying your hips, do figure of eight movements and good deep back and forth motions with your pelvis.

if you can squat try that... maybe by holding on to something for balance, it opens the pelvis and helps things along.

probono · 26/02/2010 15:07

that's it, that's it -- it's a squat that's what it is

only on a bucket

and then the figure of eight thing at the same time, that's exactly it

LOL at the bucket, I don't think I have one that my ginormous arse would fit in!! Imagine dh coming home from work to find me stuck in a bucket. LOL

Will try your suggestions tulips. Don't think I can do them for very long at a time though, but will give it a go. My ortho boot and shoe are not quite the same height which makes things a bit uneven.

Pick something you really need to get done before the baby comes, schedule it and the baby will probably come the night before.

Bet you a million quid you don't have the baby this weekend.

Psychological approach is worth a go, I figure

actually stuck in a bucket isn't such a bad plan...

I'm sure I read that laughing or crying lots releases the oxytocin that causes contractions. So either a weepy movie or squatting on your bucket (!) might work!

good luck

Def second bumpybecky's idea about laughing, my sister is convinced she went into labour after watching Peter Kays Live at the Top of the tower dvd!

Or get dh to drive you over a succession of speed bumps! Kind of like the same as bouncing but with the car making all the effort! (not too fast that it hurts though!)

Can't imagine having to contend with a broken ankle as well as labour!

Good luck x

MB i take it you have tried the shag/curry/pineapple juice already then? if not - try them! all at once if you are up for a laugh

oh and saying that, a good belly laugh get me going with dd1 - dh andi were out for lunch and i was laughing so hard i was crying and WHOOMP one massive contraction that started the whole thing off

The thought of you getting your arse stuck in bucket has just made me laugh quite hard!

How about some visualisation? I know someone who's doula told her to imagine her cervix as a rose bud and then imagine it opening petal by petal (or something like that). This was during labour - but could be worth a try?

Besom · 26/02/2010 16:45

Oh yes - good luck!

bumpybecky · 26/02/2010 16:53

I've tried the speed bumps when very overdue with dd1 - dodn't work.

Stay in, sit on your bucket, watch something v funny, or very sad! while eating pineapple curry

and sleep.... i'm convinced the body prefers going into labour well rested as with both boys i woke up at 6am having contractions after a decent nights sleep

yes I know another one after my dreadful bucket failure

you know the bit above your heel and under your ankle bone

if you pincer there with your fingers it's a labour reflexology point

also

raspberry leaf tea

probono · 26/02/2010 17:39

oh dear you probably can't pincer your good ankle right now can you?

am full of good ideas me, not

I am actually serious and not trying to create a comedy moment with a heavily pregnant woman arse-end in a bucket trying contortion herself into gripping her one good ankle while drinking a revolting witches brew ..sorry about all this

but good luck x

blonde36er · 26/02/2010 18:32

don't forget she's doing all that whilst attempting sex, eating a curry and drinking pineapple juice

Report
TulipsInTheRain · 26/02/2010 19:11

well she might as well rub the pad of her big toe while she's at it then... another reflexology point
