Off! Where they cut is quite low down I don't think they could do it with your pants on!
Mine was a EMCS and I was already naked from the waist down anyway(and a bit giddy on gas and air so I didn't care in the slightest) not sure what the procedure is for a planned section but I would think you would have a hospital gown on.

Defo off! As said above they will shove pain relief suppositories up your bum. They'll also need to insert the catheter after your epidural/spinal. Then not long after a midwife/HCA will come along and give your nether regions a good bed washable change the bed pads under you. Then you'll be laying in bed knickerless until your catheter is removed and you are mobile.

Vajazzler, that's not what happened to me.

I really can't remember straight after. It was emcs and I've blocked bits of it out. I remember having the most pointless bed bath ever in the morning but not down there. DD born at 1.08am.

The horrific part I remember is the next day standing up while a midwife looked at my pad to make sure the blood looked ok and walking around carrying my wee so the midwives could check it. Now that's glamour...

Off! Catheter and suppositories. I had no idea of the magnitude of this until I had DC5 one month ago...they were cleaning me up afterwards, turning me this way and that to get all the blood and fluid (eurgh) off.

I was euphoric after safe delivery of gorgeous baby, chatting away to all six people (including two men) who were all standing at at the business end of things. I was imagining that my legs were straight out in front of me, and joked that I would like to see my toes again. So I looked down the bed, to see both my legs wiiiiide open and everything, including piles, on show. No cover in sight.

So I can safely confirm -no pants during c-section.

How could you look over? I couldn't. DDs DF did tho. He was told not to but had to. I'm fairly certain he wishes he hadn't...

Honestly tho op, if you are having a section, fret not. The people in there will really put you at ease. Even tho I had emcs and everyone was worried about the life of my DD and I, it still turned into a jovial affair once I came back into this dimension shall we say

Honestly, you do not need to worry. C sections are not a bad thing. I'm definitely having more. And you really won't give a shit who sees what!

Just be prepared for the 'yes, but you didn't give BIRTH did you' crew. I've actually been told that I don't love my baby as much because I didn't push her out. 20 hours of labour wasn't enough... Apart from that slight annoyance it will be a doddle.

I have to say my planned sections were so peaceful and relaxed they were incredibly positive birth experiences. It's natural to be nervous but there will be so many people looking after you.
The suppositories aren't pills, more like waxy bullets about an inch long. They are amazing pain relief. If they offer it you should take it! I think they put the first one in in the recovery room or theater. You probably won't notice or care. You'll be too busy falling in love with your new baby.

Vajazzler I'm in awe - 5 sections ?? I'm facing my third at the end of the year, and a bit nervous about that!

I have to agree though, ELCS is a very relaxed and positive experience. It's funny though, how you're not drugged up at all yet you don't think twice about who sees your nether regions! I was told at my pre-op that the first lot of painkillers would be a suppository inserted after being stitched up. It's better than having one the next day - when you can feel it it feels very odd (I choked on tablets on the ward so the only option was suppository
