Look up Slapton Campsites, depends what you want, do you want great facilities or cheap as chips. We stayed in a great, cheap one near slapton village, 10 min walk to visit, 20 mins back (downhill then up!), it had a tiolet, shower cubicles etc, but not much else. Or there are two specific ones the other side of Slapton, nearer the sea, looked great, are part of the camping/caravanning club and as such a bit more expensive (a lot more?).

Are you taking children? If so, doesnt matter when really, if not, best to go when no school hols. Cheaper/less busy.

If you want absolute basic, I know some great spots on Dartmoor for absolutely nothing...

Littlelapin - you and your yurts, you are obsessed woman! Have you actually stayed in one?

Slapton - near Blackpool sands, not far from Dartmouth etc. Slapton itself has nature reserve v close to seafront, seafront is made up of old seaside houses and a couple of good pubs/restuarants, thats it, loverly and quiet and beautiful

I am always around Little - and you cant hide from me! Especially if I think you have info I need...

I will keep thinking of some locations for you Filly and let you know if I think of some...

As for coffee...Dartmoor....fresh spring water, open fire and jar of Fair Trade...? Oh but the fire would have smoke!!
Its the best cuppa in the world when its made outside...

Dont know what the place is like as not stayed there, but tavistock is wonderful, and the area around it is mixed moors and foresty. I know you said no caravans, but it appears split? Just an idea?

Always lurking on the camping thread and never post so thought I would finally say hello!! Can't wait until half term so we can go - have realistically decided that 3 nights is as much as we can take with the DSes as we are always so knackered on holiday with them and camping even more so!
Just got back from Devon (not camping, in a "chalet" ) and it was fab! We were in Brixham - very nice harbour etc.

Brixham too - loverly, but perhaps quite busy at times?

PavlovtheCat · 15/04/2007 22:39

I agree with Little - that area is near Riverford and Dggerland, and if you have some time you can do Cornwall relatively easily.

I say near, I mean more central ish?
