At approximately what age do girls feet stop growing ?

My DD is 12 and already has a size 9 foot ! Recently we have tried to buy shoes and the size 9s are on the small size. I have size 7 and my DH is a 12 so she was destined for bigger feet ;-) I just hope her feet don't grow anymore. At what age did your DDs feet stop growing ?

Don't have daughters, but recall from my own experience that I was about 13-14 when my feet stopped growing. I'm in the other end of the scale; when I went to secondary school at 12y 3m my feet were still (childs) 13, they ended up 2.5 and 3. (Am a very short person and gained no height after the age of 12 or so)

She might have stopped now - Mine were a size 7 when I went into year 7 at 11 and a half, and I take an 8 now, so they stopped pretty soon after I went into High school. I only grew 2 and a half inches in height after starting year 7 - is she quite tall already?

Don't know - my dd's are currently size 6 and she is in Y7. She is still growing (in height) so I am anticipating a bit more. I take a size 8 - I expect she will ultimately too

I stopped at 12, also size 9.

Thanks for the replies. I feel better that hopefully size 9 is it ! Shes 5 '6 but really growing at the moment. DH is 6'4 so hopefully she will just go up in height a bit more and her feet will have stopped ! Smile Smile

My feet stopped growing at around 12 . I remember being a 5 in first year and getting a 6 in my second year school shoes . But now I'm really a 5 but have to buy the occasional 6 .

My dd hasn't noticeably grown in height and her feet have stayed a size 4 since about age 12. She's almost 15 now.

My dd started her period at 10 and I've heard that can affect the age girls stop growing. I'm not sure where I heard it so it could well be a load of old rubbish!

I was wondering that too as my Y8 dd has just bought shoe size 8 school shoes. Shock

Slightly concerned as she has not started her period yet so presumably still growing...

I don't know. My 11 year old has the same size feet I do which seems a bit scary to me! She'll end up being size 9 at this rate.

thornrose, I think that that belief started because although most of the time girls are near the end of their growth around the time their period arrives, it is not the arrival of the period that ends it. Some study found that girls who got their period younger grew more after it arrived than girls who got their period late. So it's kind of an old wives tale that sticks around because for MOST girls it is true-ish. It was true for me but I didn't get my period til i was almost 14.

Cece, they have to start making bigger shoes I guess.

IIRC your feet are fully formed by the age of 18. I was a size 9 at 13, but now wear a size 6.

Have you cut your toes off Doreen?

I had the same pair of hockey boots when I started secondary as when I finished, so for me it was 11

My feet stopped growing at size 9 when I was about 12. Unfortunately I went up another size in my first pregnancy and stayed a size 10 afterwards. I imagine your DD should be just about finished with growing by now.

I know, that doesn't sound right to me either. My 8 year old is a size four. I don't know how a 13 year old could be a size 9 because either you mean a child's size nine in which case you were minute at 13, or you mean an adults size 9 (and so your feet shrank!). sorry to be columbo here, trying to figure it out.

Thanks for all the replies. I hope size 9 is it then although shes tried some 9s in new look and topshop recently amd they were too small ! does anywhere do a size 10 in shoes that might be considered fashionable by a 12 year old ! Wink Wink

My DD was a size 5 at 11, stopped, but has dropped to a 4 size at 14.

Watching with interest! DD is 12 and her feet are 3 and a half (3 in most shoes, needs 4 in some makes). But have been that for two full years. She has grown in height in that time but her feet don't seem to change. DS on the other hand is already in a 3 at age 8.

I honestly can't make sense of it either iffy, it was an adult size 9, I have wondered if it was linked to a health issue I have, but my feet never seemed swollen or anything that could explain the change. I still have all my toes Galaxy unfortunately!

To take the thread off slightly on a tangent, any idea when girls tend to stop growing in height?

Report
Spottybra · 15/07/2014 22:33

I was 12-13 when my feet stopped growing. I remember my mum buying me a shoe size bigger thinking they would do all the following school year until I grew. But I never did.
