Hi,

We are having a girl and had agreed on Ellie-Mai. But now DH has decided he wants a christian name, at least in the meaning.

Help! All the ones I have seen so far are so ..... average.

Thanks

Ruth? Don't hear of many new babies called Ruth.

Do you mean a 'Sunday Best' name or a Biblical name?

Elena (Elaine-a) / Elinor / Elyssia May (Ellie)
Alyssa/Alexia/Alicia/Allegra/Alexandra (Allie)

Isobel (the Spanish version of Elizabeth)
Theresa (Tessa for short)

Those are two names I like.

Ugh, Kaekae - that's a new low on baby name threads.

Jeez, Kaekae. We need a [sharp intake of breath] emoticon for that one! FWIW, I think it's lovely.
Have just discovered am having a boy so you can have my most beloved biblical name- Miriam. It's so pretty and unusual too.
There are a million versions of Elizabeth or Mary if you want something more classic. I think Mary by itself is really sweet- shame it's been adopted as a pet name for female genitals!

padraig · 20/04/2010 22:06

Miriam is a rather unpleasant name tbh.

SillyTillyBilly · 20/04/2010 22:18

I think Miriam is a gorgeous name - classic, underused with cute nns

GladioliBuckets · 20/04/2010 22:43

Maybe Kaekae has an unhealthy obsession with herbs.

how about elouise with ellie for short and you could have mai as a middle name. call her elouise mai for the birth certificate and ellie mai for normal use

Ruth is a hundred times more distinguished than Ellie-Mai.

No offense to mums of Ellies, and I like it if it is say short for Eloise or Eliza. But the combo of Ellie and Mai/Mae is a little tired.

Ruth is beautiful. I also like Naomi, Lydia, Susannah
and Rachel.

Christabel with Christa for short is beautiful too and I don't think Christabel would be chosen outside of Christian communities so in that respect I guess it's a Christian name. Christian as opposed to bible.

I'm a Miriam (I'm in my early 30s) and my big sister is Ruth!

Good solid names, IMO

Agree with Magaly (despite having an Eleanor myself!) that the combination of Ellie and Rose/Grace/May/Mae will look very dated.

Whereas Mary Jane is lovely. I know of one Mary and it's a lovely sounding name and far more unusual than the similar May/Maya/Mia. And Mary certainly biblical!
