I believe that Demi Moore named her daughter Scout after the character in To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Just wondering if any of you have been inspired by a book/film character when choosing names for your children

I have named my DD a name that DH and I absolutely adored- we picked it years before we were even going to get married or have children- we both just adore this name!

However, since having her I realise that it is the name of the author of one of my favorite books from childhood (doh!) but I did it subconsciously, and DH has never read anything by her.

I am trying to wangle one of my other favourite authors into DS' middle names (due in 8 days!) so I see nothing wrong with it. If it inspires you, then go for it.

However I would feel sorry for the child named Harry after Harry Potter, or Jordan after Jordan IYSWIM!

I've always like Zoli if I have a girl next..she's the title character in a book by Collum Mcgann. It's actually a boy's name though (Slovakian, short for Zoltan, I think), so we'll see!

My DD is Lyra after the Philip Pullman books. Wanted Merrily after the Phil Rockman books but wasn't allowed.

If it wasn't for a close family member with the same name, DD would have been Caroline after a character from the Poldark novels, Caroline Penvenen. Had to give it as a middle name and I'm sure family member thinks it's after her!

DS's middle name is Giles. Given that and my posting name, can anyone guess what my inspiration was??

I would have loved to name DS after a character in To Kill a Mockingbird. The name is Atticus. But DH vetoed it... Sad...

In the end we named him Aidan. I was inspired by the Aidan character in Sex and the City. But don't tell DH that, he would be mortified. LOL!

My DS is named after my favourite book when I was little. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

He is called Charlie, not Willy Wonka

DH has no idea but our stillborn DD's name is after a very minor character in a David Lodge novel.

I went through all my favourite authors' names looking for inspiration for DS's name, but he is emphatically NOT named after my favourite poet.

My Harry is so not named after HP . If I had a pound for every one who asked that after he was born we would be rolling in it. Somehow, the same didn't hold for ds2 who would otherwise have been named after a tank engine.

I vetoed Dylan on each occasion despite dh's pleas - I don't care if Bob is an icon, it's not the name for our boys.

My DD was named after a character in an opera. We went to see it in Rome on our first trip away together.

My DS is named after an old favourite TV show of my very young childhood.
Clue: We never call him Jack or James. Bird taught him to sing!

Well I am having a baby girl in May and dd2 and dp are Pushing for
Martha Rose because they are huge Dr who fans I like it but I just don't know if I like it enough.

I also love Hermione but everyone would ask me if it was because of HP .

There is also Ophelia which I feel in love with after watching Pans labyrinth I adore it but I am not brave enough .

Ds1 is named after a character in My Family and Other Animals (not Gerald ), but it was clinched when I read the meaning of the name in The Midwich Cuckoos - which was made into a film called Village of the Damned.
