Will be comparing notes with oh in a few weeks.
This will be dc2 we already have a dd Georgia.

Girls:
•Harriet- Hatty as nn (our surname begins with h though)
• Camilla
• Catherine - Kitty as nn
• Edith

Nancy, Annabel are both ok but not 100%. I like Allegra and Arabella but sure it will be a no to those.

Boys- my favourite is Henry but this was strongly vetoed last time.
• Alistair
• Edward/Ted (too popular?)
• Gregory (would this work with Georgia?)

Really struggling with boys names!

Any suggestions please?!
And comments on list so far
Thanks

love Camilla and Harriet, especially nn Hatty and think Georgia and Hatty sound lovely as a sibset.

im not keen on any of your boys names (I like Gregory but don't think it works with Georgia IMO) as I think Edward/ Teddy is being really overdone at the moment.

What about for a boy:

Georgia and Frederick (Fred)

Georgia and Richard (nn Ricky- think this nickname really grows with the child too)

Georgia and Elliot

Or others for a girl..

Georgia and Florence (nn Flo)
Georgia and Alexandra (nn Alix)
Georgia and Scarlett (nn Lettie)
Georgia and Ophelia (nn Effie)

Love Harriet and Camilla, and Bertie for either boy or girl (Robert, Albert, Roberta).

Lots of Arthur's round my way at the moment.

I really like PP's suggestion of Elliot too.

Girls:
•Harriet- Hatty as nn - quite like it. There always seem to a steady number around where I teach but never hundreds
• Camilla - really like it. Only know 3 (and one's an adult)
• Catherine - Kitty as nn - like Catherine a lot, not so keen on Kitty
• Edith - it's ok. Like Edie as a nn

  • Nancy - don't like this
  • Annabel - really like it
  • Allegra - like it - as long as the nn is Ally not Leggy!
  • Arabella - love it

    Boys-
  • Henry - like it but obviously no good if your partner doesn't
    • Alistair - like it
    • Edward/Ted (too popular?) - really like Edward but not Ted. How about Ed/Eddie?
    • Gregory (would this work with Georgia?) - quite like it and don't see why it can't go with Georgia
  • Arthur - not keen
  • Albert/Bertie - not keen. I can't seem to get past the old man connotations with Arthur and Albert

    Other ideas:
Alice, Aurora, Aurelia, Bethany, Charlotte, Cassandra, Clarissa, Constance, Emma, Eleanor, Erica, Florence, Hannah, Henrietta, Hermione, Isabelle, Imogen, Joanna, Josephine, Juliette, Lydia, Madeleine, Miranda, Matilda, Miriam, Natasha, Naomi, Natalie, Olivia, Philippa, Phoebe, Rebecca, Rosalie, Rose, Sophia, Saskia, Tabitha, Victoria, Zara

Anthony, Andrew, Benjamin, Benedict, Bartholemew, Christian, Christopher, Daniel, David, Euan, Frederick, Fergus, Gareth, Hal, John, James, Jonathan, Joel, Joseph, Luke, Matthew, Michael, Mark, Martin, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Oliver, Patrick, Peter, Richard, Robert, Solomon, Sidney, Stanley, Vincent, William, Xavier, Zachary

Thank you Manic lovely girl suggestions I considered Lydia for dd1 might add that back on list- Victoria I love for a middle name.
Cassandra is fab I love that name but I know oh and our entire family's reaction will be 'only fools'!

Still not loving any boy names they are so hard!

Henry and Edward/Teddy are so popular at the moment, also Arabella seems to be rising fast, and there are a lot of Bella's around.

I Like Catherine best nn Kitty is beautiful
What about William for a boy, still classic but not as popular as Henry at the moment

I love Billy as nn and Willam but there are 2 in the family and my best friend's son is William too. Have thought Willfred but I really don't like Fred or Freddie

Why do people pick a name with a view to calling them a nickname ? Ive never understood that ??

Report
Namechanged101 · 11/04/2015 12:46

I like the formality of a full name but with a nn option I call my dd Georgie but never would have picked that as her proper name. I like the option :)

I'm a Harriet with an H surname (by marriage). I think it sounds marvellous! Grin

We've picked a name for DS with the intention of using a nickname all the time. Meh. Don't see the problem! Think it would be weird to put just a nickname on the birth cert.

stormyboots · 11/04/2015 12:50

It makes sense to run through potential nn because even if you don't shorten your child's name, others might in the future

fairyfuckwings · 11/04/2015 12:50

My daughter's called Harriet and we've never come accross another Harriet so I don't think it's that common.

We call her Harry rather than Hattie for short though as we live up north and everyone (including me) would pronounce it "A'eh" Grin

Really like Harriet/Hatty, and like alliterative names, so no probs with H surname. Also like Nancy.

Your boy's names are great! Love Edward and Alistair, and really like Henry, Gregory, Albert and Arthur. I know you said you're finding boy's names tricky, but I think you've got a lovely list.

I have a Katherine nn Katie as well and my name is also on your list!

My friend bobbed round this evening with her baby niece. Not sure of the spelling but she was called Laila/Layla? I have heard that name before but not very often and I thought it was a lovely name. I did want to call Harriet "lola" though but was vetoed so that's probably why I liked it so much! Middle name "May". Which happens to be my late Grandmothers name which I also like.

I should probably have another baby as I'm overly invested in this baby naming thread!
