Friend taking name! Help (was Marley)

westie40 · 06/08/2014 11:31

I am due after my friend and had decided on Marley for a boy, but didn't say anything. My friend is due first and told me last week she is having Marley! Not much I can do - she did say it first!

I also like (but not as much :-():
Dexter
Finn
Sonny
Milo

But I wanted to ask for more suggestions as the ones above I don't like AS much so am not swayed.

Can anyone help...?

Just say,"Oh yes, I watched 'Marley and Me' recently. Did you see it?"
I actually prefer all your other suggestions but I met a baby the other day named Harley which was quite cute. I think on balance a teenage boy might just prefer to remind people of an iconic motorbike rather than a dead labrador :)

How much of a friend is she? Will you see her often? It's dam annoying when that happens!!!

If you seriously cannot find any others, just use it!!

Out of your list I like Finn and Dexter

How about a name that's not off the telly?

Call him Bob instead Grin

Dexter and Finn are nice. Miles is nicer than Milo.

Really don't like Marley, let her have it!

I know 2 boys named Marley both from quite rough families, it's quite off putting and as someone else said also has deceased dog connotations.

It makes me think of bob Marley rather than the dog,I love it. How often will you see her? You could still use it.

Does the dog die?! No point in me watching that movie now.

Are you definitely having a boy? Maybe it'll become irrelevant.

Trust me, it doesn't matter whether you know the ending or not Smile

Rex?

I think if you do have a boy and you still would like to call him Marley then you should. I made the mistake of not calling my baby what I wanted to because of outside influences and I really regret it. You know you aren't copying her and you can call your own baby whatever you want.

Marley is not a nice name; she's done you a favour.

Dexter is lovely.

Also, she might change her mind and not call her baby Marley.

Could you actually explain the situation to her?

She might say she doesn't care if you use it too!

Dexter is great and was on my short list too.

Dex is a very cool nickname.

Marley is, indeed, a dead dog.

Dexter gets my vote too. Classy.

So no to be named after a dead dog, but yes to being named after a serial killer?

Marley is a dog, Milo is a dog (the Mask with Jim Carrey). I vote for Finn or Sonny, but have to admit i do not like any of the names. What about Connor, Donovan, Caspar, Oscar, Matheo,

My friends had this fight over the name Stanley, I think knowing the other wanted it made each want it more, one said it out loud first but the other was due first and swore it was their chosen name, it got ugly they stopped talking for quite a long time.
Neither child is now called Stanley Grin
