Nicknames for Rebecca that aren't Becky/Becca?

Hi,

DH and I really like Rebecca as a name but I really don't like Becky or Becca as a nickname. I just think that even if I always say Rebecca it's so long that others won't and Becky is an inevitability. Can anyone think of any (pretty) alternatives that we could use?

Thanks
xxx

If I didn't like the inevitable shortening, I wouldn't use the name. I rejected a few lovely names for precisely this reason.

I don't like the usual short form of DDs name - everyone uses the full version, she is 4 it isn't inevitable that it will be shortened.

It will be your daughter who decides what her nickname is.

My sister is Rebecca and among the family has always been called Rebecca. She (even as a child) hated Becky and her friends have always called her Becca - it is how she introduces herself.

I know a Becs

I know lots of Rebeccas. They are all Becky/Becca/Bex, etc. At least two of them would actually rather be known as Rebecca but feel it's too late when everyone knows them by their NN and their parents used the nickname from early childhood. Both of them have kids and have chosen short "complete" names that can't really be shortened for that reason, funnily enough!

I am Rebecca, known as Rebecca, Becca, Bec or Becs but never Becky, just never liked it.

My dd is a Rebecca. I'm not keen on becky but she likes it and gets called it by her friends. I call her bex, bexie and becca.

Ray?

I knew a Rebecca who was always just known as Rebecca, never by any nn, at least as a kid.

I think it's possible to avoid Becky; but if you don't llike Becky OR Becca you may have difficulties.

I'm called Rebecca - my parents always insisted it was Rebecca and I've never been called anything else! Sometimes now I go by Becca but that's because I quite fancied a nn!

My mother hated nicknames and abbreviations and when I was born she gave me a name that couldn't be shortened. She did the same when my sister was born.

I know an adult Rebecca who is only known as Rebecca and two known as Becky.

Lovely name - wish we had used it as first name rather than middle in some ways.

Our dd2 has a name with an inevitable nickname and she rarely gets called it. I don't like the nickname, but tbh when she gets called it out of affection I think it is really nice.

Conversely to some posters, I grew up with a name that really doesn't shorten (2 syllables but ugly when shortened and no "official" shortenings) and was thus keen that my kids would have names with plenty of shortening opportunities. Dd1 is Rebecca - always been Becky or Boo to us but recently has evolved into Bex at her own instigation (she's 11).

I'm a Deborah and loath it being shortened with a passion but people will shorten it you can't stop them.
